UEF 2016 highlights

2016 was the year of many great events at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, which helped the university gain more reputation and trust from the society. These events have clearly stated the benefits an international university with bilingual education programs.
 
As members of the UEF family, let’s look back at all the university’s highlight from last year:

Continues the 8-year old Students Exchange Program between UEF and Pittsburgh (USA) students – Plus 3

Plus 3 was firstly held at UEF in 2009 and has been developing ever since. UEF is proud to be one of five universities across the world
to be able to cooperate with Pittsburgh (other nations include: China, Germany, Costa Rica, Italy). Having reached the milestone of our 8 years partnership, Plus 3 is a yearly traditional playground for UEF students to meet, study, exchange experience, as well as practice their language skills with international students.

International Exchange is one of UEF’s most popular and regular activity.
 
Took place from May 09 to May 20, the Plus 3 Exchange Program – 2016 marked the 7 years partnership in exchanging students between the two schools. The event included many exciting activities such as Vietnamese language classes, field trips to enterprises, City tours, picnics, and sport matches, etc.

Partnership Agreement with Bangkok- Thailand University Signed.
 
On Sep 23, 2015, staffs from Bangkok (Thailand) University, led by Prof. Ajarn Petch Osathanugrah signed an Academic Cooperation Agreement with HCMC University of Economics and Finance (UEF).

Prof. Ajarn Petch Osathanugra, Chairman of Bangkok University and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Giang – President of UEF together signed the cooperation agreement.
 
During the ceremony, Prof. Ajarn Petch Osathanugra, Bangkok University’s Chairman highly appreciated the international education model as well as the teaching quality at UEF. He also hoped that a full cooperation plan would soon be carried out.

This Agreement plays a very important role in the relationship between the two universities. It stated that for the upcoming time, both parties will strengthen their collaboration with: Teacher exchange, Student exchange, Lecturers training: improve academic and teaching skills; Collaboration in some science research projects; Acknowledgment of UEF education and cooperative training programs.
 
Approval of opening new courses from the Ministry of Education and Training.
 
In 2016, the Ministry of Education and Training trusted Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UF) with many new courses, including E-commerce, Public Relations, Human Resources Management, Hospitality Management, Tourism and Service Management,  increasing the total number of the university majors to 13.

UEF is gaining more trust from the society with its reputation.

Trust coming from the Government, the Ministry of Education and Training, and our society is the core motivation for our school to push on perfecting our qualified and skilled resources – the utmost goal that UEF has been pursuing on their 10 years period of development.

25 Enterprises sign a long-term Partnership Agreement with UEF.
 
With the aim of improving the practice semester, increasing the internship and job opportunities for students, UEF grandly held a Signing ceremony with 25 famous enterprises from various fields in the morning of September 9. The content of this agreement mainly focused on collaboration in establishing training programs with job application-centered, scholarships,  internship and working programs, and providing assistance with academic contests. Apart from that, these organizations will participate in some UEF’s yearly activities: Recruitment Day, Thematic conferences, Transitioning from University to Startups, etc.

Thanks to this event, students from the business, management, finance and banking, accountancy, information technology, law, foreign language, social communication departments all can sign up for well-known national and international banks, companies, and corporations... such as: Cat Tien Sa Advertising – Consulting – Event Coordinating Ltd., Hoang Gia Consulting and Accounting Ltd., Kien A Joint Stock Company, Unibrands Group, HCM – HSC Stock Company, First News-Tri Viet Publishing Co., Ltd., Saigon Construction Joint Stock Company (COSACO), Vietnam iCare Benefits Ltd., Lawpro, Sang Thinh Ltd., TMCP SBC Bank, C.T Group, Aureole Information Technology Inc., etc.
 
Hosting the Tesol Talk.
 
In the evening of Oct 15, many teachers, speakers, and specialists from British Council, ACET, RMIT University,  and HCMC University of Pedagogy... took part in the 7th Tesol Talk hosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF).
 
Tesol Talk is a well-known sequence of specialized conferences, which aims at enhancing English teachers and lecturers’ academic knowledge, is developed and periodically held by ACET, HCMC Association of Researching and Teaching English Language, and RMIT University. The conference has attracted thousands of teachers from many countries and become very popular in Hanoi and Hochiminh city.


The conference has attracted a large number of English teachers and educational specialists.

With the topic “Flourishing ELT Teaching English in a Changing World”, the conference was a great forum for specialists from both inside and outside of our country to discuss and share their experience about prominent topics in the English teaching. Some examples of these were Using the virtual reality technology and portable devices in teaching, Suggestions on improving the teaching methods in order to overcome difficulties in learning English, and Efforts in raising the teaching quality in an era of technology and innovation, etc.
Graduation Ceremony – Congratulations to the New UEF Graduates of 2016
 
On August 13, 2016, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF) excitedly celebrated the Graduation Ceremony – Applauding the New Graduates of University students Class 2012 and College students Class 2013 at HCMC Municipal Theatre, no. 7 Lam Son Square, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, HCMC. The ceremony took place in a solemn atmosphere, filled with cheers and excitement.

On behalf of all graduates – Ms. Do Thi Diem My has a speech to express her feelings and gratitude in the ceremony.

Among our guests we have Mr. Ha Huu Phuc – Chief of the HCMC Ministry of Education and Training’s representatives, leaders from the Department of Education and Training, the Board of Trustees, the University’s leading officials, alumni, and parents of the new graduates all have come to join in the cheerful atmosphere of the ceremony.

During the ceremony, valedictorian of Class 2012-2016, Ms. Do Thi Diem My represented all graduates to showed appreciation to the university’s leaders and teachers, those who have been of great help to during the students’ studying; and furthermore, promised to try their best and live up to the reputation of UEF.
 
Starting a new school year and celebrating the University’s 9th anniversary.

In the morning of September 23. HCMC University of Economics and Finance (UEF) held a ceremony to start the 2016-2017 school year and celebrate the 9th Anniversary of the university at the City Hall. The ceremony was carried out in a solemn and cheerful atmosphere.

The drum was hit to kick off a promising new school year.

The ceremony was not only about starting a new school year, but also was an opportunity to summarize the previous year. This included acknowledgment and rewarding some individuals and groups of staff and teachers, who have contributed greatly to the development of UEF in the past school year. On this occasion, the university also awarded 999 scholarships to newly admitted students for achieving exceptional results in the 2016 University Entrance Exam. In which, 38 students received a 100% scholarship, 381 students with 50% scholarship, and 580 students received a 25% scholarship. Furthermore, UEF also handed out 24 scholarships for talented students along with some stimulate awards for hard-working members of the Student’s Association – the Youth Union, and grants for some university’s clubs. All of the scholarships reached a total value of 23 billion Dong.

Speak up UEF 2016 – A contest for talented MCs

“Speak up UEF 2016” continued to act as a grand playground for UEF students in 2016. The contest brought many exciting challenges to students who are passionate about becoming an MC. The Youth Union – Students’ Association of UEF created the contest in order to look for some truly talented MC in nearly a 1-month time.

The contest was not only for those who carry the dream of becoming an MC to explore and develop themselves but also provided an environment for them to work on skills and express their personality and creativity.

After 3 intense contest rounds, contestant No. 020 – Le Thi Kieu Oanh, who is a student from the Faculty of International Relations and Communication, was announced the winner of the contest. The First, Second, and Third Prize belonged to contestant Phan Thi Van Anh (No. 011, Faculty of Finance and Accounting), Le Tuan Anh (No. 006, Faculty of International Cultures and Language), and Nguyen Thi Diem My (No. 055, Faculty of Finance and Accounting) respectively.

Celebrating the 34th Vietnamese Teacher’s Day (20/11/1982 – 20/11/ 2016)

In the morning of November 19, UEF held the 34th Vietnamese Teacher’s Day ceremony in order to show appreciation to our teachers as well as people who are working in the education area.

UEF students express their gratitudes toward teachers with flowers.

At the Ceremony, the University’s Board of Trustees sent a message of appreciation to all the teachers at UEF. The ceremony was an opportunity for officials – teachers – staffs to gather and rehearse old memories of their working progress. The event also created a warm atmosphere where many units in the university can come together and share their feelings as well as encourage each other in making UEF a better place. Before the event took place, students took part in many cards and flowers making activities to celebrate this meaningful day.

Great news from the Youth Union – Students’ Association Training program.

In order to provide the Youth Union – Students’ Association members with the knowledge and skills needed for future activities. In a 3-day time of 9, 10, and 11 of December, UEF’s Youth Union – Students’ Association organized the Youth Union – Students’ Association Training Program 2016 – 2017 in HCMC and Da Lat. The Program this year included 124 members from the University’s Youth Union – Students’ Association, along with all clubs, teams, and groups leaders in our university.

Active members of the Youth Union – Students’ Association are the strength of UEF’s youth movements.

This year training consisted of many skill training sessions such as relationship building skills, management skills and leadership in team-working skills, game and group activity administrating skills through team building activities such as Explore Langbiang, Amazing race – version UEF, Gong cultural exchange, etc.

These activities not only taught skills and knowledge related to the Youth Union – Students’ Association work in an exciting way but also encouraged students to become more active and enthusiastic. This program also provided students with a fun and safe playground.

Celebrates “Development and Integration” Journal 5 years anniversary.

In the morning of  December 23rd, HCMC University of Economics and Finance (UEF) grandly celebrated the 5 year Anniversary of the “Development and Integration” Journal. The event marked a great progress of the school in the Education and Research area with their effortful product.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hung – Head of the Department of HR and Administrative Affairs, on behalf of the City’s Board of  Emulation and Commendation,  awarded the Journal with the “Certification of Excellent Labor Community” from HCMC People’s Committee.
 
The Journal has had 31 issues, with 440 articles and research projects from 320 authors. The journal has received a lot of positive comments from the specialist about its scientific contents and revolutionary ideas in the modern economy, society, education, and current affairs. The journal was also regarded as a crucial forum for scientific and academic ideas; as well as guidelines for raising the overall quality of science teaching and researching.

A year full of great achievements has passed. In the upcoming 2017, UEF, with new goals and relentless efforts, promise to be even more successful in their educational work.
