The Lawyer Who Won A Case For Louis Vuitton Now Teaches At UEF

On Dec 23, UEF had the honor to welcome Professor – Lawyer Robert E.Shapiro from the US for the Visiting Professor Program, which was held by Vietnam Society of International Law (VSIL) and Austria's Center for International Legal Studies (CLIS) in coordination with UEF’s Faculty of Law and International Relations.
Prof. Robert E.Shapiro is known for his role as the legal representative of Louis Vuitton in its high-profile case with MOB, LVL XIII.
Present at the welcoming ceremony were Mr. Do Quoc Anh - Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Do Huu Nguyen Loc – Vice President, Dr. Nhan Cam Tri – Vice President, and other members of staff as well as UEF students from the Faculty of Law and International Relations.

Dr. Do Huu Nguyen Loc began the welcoming ceremony with a short speech and a brief overview of UEF. He also introduced to Prof. Robert E.Shapiro about the UEF’s international standards of training citeria and productive learning environment. The high frequency of visiting foreign professors was also mentioned.

Mr. Vu Anh Sao, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law and International Relations, thanked Prof. Robert E.Shapiro and expressed his hope that UEF students would learn much from him.
In acknowledgement of the warm reception from UEF, Prof. Robert E.Shapiro showed his gratitude to UEF for entrusting him with the position. He also hoped what he brought to the students would benefit their education. He added that he would expect energetic interactions from students.

After the ceremony, Prof. Robert E.Shapiro was given a tour of UEF to learn more about student learning environment.
After that, UEF students had their first class with Prof. Robert E.Shapiro on “Structure of American Law”. During the class, Pro. Robert E.Shapiro discussed with students about the two basic law structures: Civil Law and Common Law. They are the foundation of laws worldwide and therefore must be well learned by every lawyer. Prof. Robert E.Shapiro also spent some time on the US Constitution and Adversary System.

During his stay at UEF from Dec 23 to Dec 27, Prof. Robert E.Shapiro will continue to provide students with knowledge of Laws as well as experiences for working as lawyers. The next lessons are the Court System, Common Law Topics, Statutory Law Topics, and Other U.S. Law.
This would be a great chance for UEF Law students to gain access to advanced knowledge from international lawyers. So let’s not miss any lesson, UEFers!
Professor - Lawyer Robert E.Shapiro has participated in many high-profile trade lawsuits. In 2014, he represented Louis Vuitton in the lawsuit with LVL XLLL regarding copyright infringement of designs. LVL XIII filed a lawsuit against Louis Vuitton at a court in New York, claiming that Louis Vuitton had mimicked their shoe design. But Prof. Robert E. Shapiro made a compelling case and helped Louis Vuitton win the lawsuit.
