UEF’s journey to connect the community

01/29/2021
Community projects are one of the highlights in the full picture of activities that have been done by UEF. UEFers should be proud of the values that have become widespread via the sharing and connecting activities in the past year. Giving allows students to receive knowledge, skills and opportunities to nurture their emotional life.

1. Activities diversification allows students to broaden their experience.
In 2020, there are additional variety of forms for community projects. Specifically, the implementation of Service-Learning into the curriculum is one of the novel and bright aspects. This learning form brings the students the opportunities to acquire not only professional knowledge but also practical application to help disadvantaged communities. This has successfully deployed in a number of subjects such as Brand Management, Integrated Marketing Communications, and Web, News and Reports Designing.
In addition, UEFers also gained many experiences from other meaningful projects, namely “Dieu nguoc gio” (Kites in backwind) to provide the children with financial management skill; “Sang tao vi xa hoi” (Creativity and the Society) to help the children create products for the community;  Document Imaging Project for “Niem tin” (Trust) Organisation; Heart to Hand Project to provide tutoring lessons and translation tasks for “Niem tin” (Trust) Organisation, etc.

This year has seen various forms of communitiy projects.

Also, UEFers diversified their projects by the combination between painting skills and artistic talents in Dance Teaching Project for Kim Dong Club and Xoay Tron Project.

2. “Give and take” meaningful values
The success of each project has provided the UEFers the opportunities to become mature and useful lessons. Therefore, the students can have a professional training environment to foster a set of skills such as financial planning skill, responsible spending habits basic savings options, and wise shopping skills; with comparison and selection.

When you spread love, you receive love.

Each project is a fruitful result that shows a high sense of team spirit.

3. Each project embraces the team spirit.
Supporting and participating in UEF Service - Learning from the very first day, Ms. Dinh Nguyen Thien An – Vice Director of UEF Community Connection Centre shared “The year 2020 has seen a number of challenges in socio-economy; therefore, students should have the awareness of the important role of learning and practicing to adapt to difficulties. At the same time, they should be active and ready for the future plans for which the preparations can be found in experiencing Service-Learning. In the part year, UEF has maintained the continual of the projects and marked the success of the implementation of some community activities into some subjects as well as the increase of such fresh and creative projects to provide the students with essential skills.”

As a companion of UEF’s students in all of the 2020’s projects, Mr. Nguyen Hung Anh shared that what allows him to keep the passion for such projects was their creativity and spirit for the community, “Students had a chance to be exposed to different communities. They became more mature in many areas of life.”, “Despite some ups and downs in this year, the students participated in each project with their great effort and a high sense responsibility. Besides, each activity was welcome and supported by the university and organisations.”, he added.

Ms. Tran Minh Nhu who was a member of the project shared about the reasons why she was into Service – Learning: “From the first project, I realised that I have changed in my mindset and my feeling. Hidden sides of a disadvaged community influenced me to make a contribution and give a hand to other people. Later, I took part in more projects; some of which helped me to gain more experiences in preparation, ideas, tasks distribution, necessary skills to interacg with the children, etc., as a coordinator.”

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thao Quyen who joined a number of projects in 2020 said “In the past year, I took part in 3 projects: “Thanh cong voi long thau cam” (Success with empathy), “Dieu nguoc gio” (Kites in backwind), “Sang tao vi xa hoi” (Creativity and the Society). My fellows and I have acquired emotional management and problem solving skills by improving ourselves. Moreover, Service-Learning provided me with the opportunities to reflect and put myself out there to establish good relationships with others for my student life.”

UEFers have become better grown-ups and gained more helpful lessons through Service – Learning and 2020’s voluntary programmes. In the next year of 2021, the preparations for new projects are ongoing, promising a string of practical activities to support the society.
