DECEMBER 30 - The Korean Language Department of UEF Faculty of the Languages and International Culture successfully organized the “Stories of South Korean Lunar New Year” workshop. This event is part of the faculty's cultural series, “Cultural Treasures,” aimed at enriching students’ understanding and appreciation of Korean culture while fostering opportunities for exchange and learning between UEFers and cultural experts.

The event was attended by Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Linh - Deputy Dean of Faculty of the Languages and International Cultures, Dr. Bui Thi My Linh - Head of the Korean Language Department, alongside other faculty members.
Representing the King Sejong Institution three were Mr. Bak Ji Hyeon, the Operations Officer and main speaker; Ms. Tran Huong Linh - Operations Staff, and Mr. Do Tran Tien - Administrative Officer.

During the event, Mr. Bak Ji Hyeon shared insights on the origins and cultural significance of Seollal, or Korean Lunar New Year, emphasizing its unique traditions and rituals. He delved into traditional customs and rituals, highlighting activities like wearing hanbok (traditional Korean attire) to offer New Year greetings, preparing iconic dishes such as rice cake soup (tteokguk) and savory pancakes (jeon), and engaging in folk games like “Yutnori”.

In addition, with the comparison of the traditional Lunar New Year between Vietnamese and Korean, UEFers have more opportunities to expose themselves to the characteristics of the both two cultures.
Following the lecture, UEFers participated in practical activities together. They participated in Korean folk games and experienced the vibrant spirit of Korean New Year through hands-on cultural activities such as decorating flags and playing "Yutnori" together, creating an atmosphere Tet is extremely lively at UEF.

The Korean New Year workshop concluded in a lively and heartwarming atmosphere. These enriching experiences are expected to inspire UEFers to develop a deeper love and understanding of Korean culture, while creating more opportunities for cultural exchange and learning in the future.
