The story of gender equality from the perspective of UEF students

10/11/2021
On November 6th, a member of UEF Service-Learning Leadership Network successfully organized a seminar on the topic of "Gender Equality". In particular, taking on the role of reporter were UEF students who participated in the Mover Program. Specialized content was mentored by experts from the Innovation Incubator and supported by the Brick House Startup Club.
Since they were all in the same age group, there was a mutual sympathy, which made the sharing of the two young speakers closer to UEFers. Many "Gen Z” terms were used to help the audience easily understand the concepts of gender and sex as well as distinguish between these two definitions.

The two reporters were both UEF students

Accordingly, gender has an innate element, represents a social role and has many changes over time. With a modern, civilized and scientific approach, the two young people confidently presented the reality of gender inequality in many parts of the world, giving signs and methods of coping with gender stereotypes.

Not only receiving theoretical information, the students were also guided to apply the newly received knowledge to analyze specific cases. From here, they realized that the consequences of gender inequality not only adversely affect economic growth but also limit people's ability to enhance diversified development.
The presented scientific research results provided many orientations for UEF students to raise awareness and change their behavior which suits each object and age.
Efforts to reduce gender inequality in Vietnam were also introduced, showing strong support for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Many achievements and positive results have been made after efforts: promulgation of the Law on Gender Equality, applications to combat domestic violence, hotlines against violence, etc.

Some other contents were shared in the Workshop on Gender Equality

At the end of the program, the students had a chance to review their knowledge with minigames, and many interactive and engaging activities that integrated knowledge were led, which helped UEFers once again look back and understand the gender issues better.

Through this activity, the students of the Action for Community Project have gained more experience in organizing and improving their workshop coordination skills. The process of organizing community activities not only helped them gain more social knowledge, but also provided them with an opportunity to share their views, perspectives and compare the learning environment at UEF to increase gender practice.
