The subject of community service engagement is one of the features of UEF's social impact activities. Recently in semester 1B, students of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management have completed the Supply Chain Management of Tourism Services Business Community Engagement course. In this subject, students will apply specific skills to come up with ideas and solutions for sustainable development in tourism business.
The subject is taught by Mr. Tran Dinh Tuan - Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management (K.QTDL-KS) coordinated with the UEF Center of Service-Learning (TT.KNCĐ) with the participation of 6 student groups (36 students). In this subject, UEF students receive advice and companionship from
Mr. Dinh Ngoc Trong - Representative of Nakayoshi Ba Ria - Vung Tau Sustainable Development Orientation Project.

With the need to develop sustainable experiential tourism integrated with local culture and deployed in the Minh Dam mountainous area, this project from community partners has opened up many interesting challenges for major tourism UEF students. After more than 6 weeks of studying with many networking activities, surveying market needs and analyzing information from partners, they had 2 report presentations with Mr. Dinh Ngoc Trong, in the role of investor.

One of the biggest difficulties students have to face is the complicated developments of the Covid pandemic. This causes a significant obstacle for them in collecting field survey information in order to have more material close to reality. With creativity, rich re-imagining skills and applying knowledge, the groups have come up with many unique ideas for sustainable tourism models such as: complex sports experience areas, environmentally friendly accommodation areas, multi-experience trekking trail, melon garden, local specialty restaurant.

Understanding consumer needs is one of the bases for students to develop ideas

Environmentally friendly materials are the most priority to use in designing services

With the orientation of sustainable development as a core value, their project ideas are characterized by each category while also integrating the criteria of sustainability, friendliness and low impact to the environment. This is shown through the way they choose clean materials, the way the design applies expertise and the correlation in utilities to complement each other. Besides, environmental protection awareness is also subtly integrated into their marketing plans and methods of reaching target customers,...

Evaluating the efforts of the students - Mr. Dinh Ngoc Trong said: "I clearly see your efforts in finding out specific information about the deployment area from soil to the local climate conditions as well as the way you combine items together to create a highlight for the whole project. During the process of researching and developing the project, you can pay more attention to the implementation scale being close to reality, pay more attention to local cultural highlights as well as pay attention to reasonable distribution of human resources, financial planning".

In the role of instructor as well as a trustworthy companion, Mr. Tuan could not hide his pride in UEF students when he saw many results in the report that were the products of modern thinking. With the quarantine situation due to the pandemic, they were not able to learn in real life but did well in applying information analysis techniques to complete the activities. In addition, we would like to thank the students for their efforts to overcome difficulties as well as thank community partners for providing information and opportunities. He also gave dedicated feedback to some groups by encouraging them to focus on the right business goals, paying attention to deeper integration of sustainable development criteria in building customer experience.

Through this subject, we can see the interest of young UEF students in facing the issues of the tourism industry. Their efforts in the subject show that they are eager to contribute to accelerating the tourism industry's post-pandemic recovery speed to support the local community's post-pandemic recovery.
