"Action for climate level 2": Spreading the message of environmental protection from practical actions

03/01/2022
After the success of the workshop "Action for climate Level 1", the students of the Community Action project of the Service-Learning Leader Network continued to organise the theme "Action for climate Level 2" in the first days of the New Year. Professional advisors are experts from Movers. In addition, the program was accompanied by experts from Innovation Incubator and Brick House Startup Club.
During the last meeting, UEF-ers had access to basic climate concepts, an overview of the operational situation and the world's orientation on global climate goals. In this activity, the speakers are also UEF students who have brought about deeper content of unimaginable causes and harms of climate change.

Activities to help UEF students better understand the impact of human behaviour on the "health" of the Earth

Information about the historical context with the rise in global temperatures from the ice age to the present is the first issue mentioned. This content clearly shows the extent of the impact of climate change. From there, young people learn the importance of human behaviour for changing the face of the Earth and causing a climate emergency.
Specifically in the current context, an overview shows how the working situation as well as the world's orientation on the global climate goal affects the Earth. The multidimensional consequences have been vividly simulated by images. In particular, most notably, the rising sea level encroaching on land can wipe many coastal cities and countries off the map of the world. Ho Chi Minh City is not an exception. In addition, students also have more access to the data and activities of greenhouse gas emissions in the world in each industry; CO2 emissions per capita and by income.

The rise in temperature since the ice age is the first thing needing attention

One of the intriguing content for UEF-ers is how to monitor and analyse the "carbon footprint", a tool to calculate each individual's carbon emissions based on daily habits, lifestyles, and activities. From here, they get a more specific view of the influence of each individual on the shared environment.
Not only receiving global information, the students are also led to see the ongoing climate change prevention activities in Vietnam. As a country in the top 10 countries most vulnerable to climate change (according to the IPCC report), Vietnam is making great efforts in this regard and towards 17 sustainable goals of the UN with many positive results despite the challenges.

UEF-ers are updated with useful information and tools to contribute to reducing the impact of climate change

At the end of the program, the students were taught how to use tools to conduct plans according to the matrix of "climate action". The activity has nurtured ideas for the environment and meaningful projects for them to join hands to protect the "healthy" Earth. With the coordination of three young people from the UEF Service-Learning Leader Network, the workshop took place excitingly, expressing the interest of UEF students in climate issues. This is reflected in the enthusiasm to learn, actively share, and interact with the participating students.
