How long haven’t you spent time for yourself?
How long have you forgotten beautiful things around you?

With the desire to help the UEFers gaining the deep emotional experiences and the precious silence in busy life, Service–Learning Center of University of Economics and Finance in Ho Chi Minh City (UEF) and the Service-Learning Leadership Network organized talk show “Raising positive emotions” on the last 8 April.
The talk show was conducted by Master of Psychology Nguyen Thi Ngoc Giau - lecturer in Psychology, expert in academic Mental Health Consultant. In this talk show, there was participation of Master Bui Quang Dong – The Head of The Office of Student Affairs, the Manager of Service-Learning Center and more than 200 UEF students.

At the beginning of the talk show, the speaker helped the students to understand more clearly these terms: What is positive emotion? What is negative emotion?; at the same time, instruct the students on how to change the negative view into a positive one and the benefits of being logical and positive. An important question was posed: How to raise positive emotions? – The answer was also the main content of the talk show: Gratefulness is the most efficient solution.
If you are still angry, sad because of someone or something, tell yourself that: Everything happens has its reason and be grateful that it happened. That is an ‘incantation’ which Master of Psychology Nguyen Thi Ngoc Giau had concluded from her own stories and experiences.

UEF student shared their own stories and listen to advice from the psychologist

She also gave many familiar comparisons in order to make it clearer for the students to visualize the issue, for example: When being sick, we have to drink medicines, and being grateful is also considered to be a medicine for the soul. Gratefulness will bring about a lot of benefits. It is easier to listen rather than to apply in. So how to do this?
After sharing the theory, the speaker had instructed the students to write a thank-you letter for a person who had given good things for them. That is really an emotional experience. The students were encouraged to share their letters and there were sympathetic tears, the gratefulness for those stories. The psychologist also hoped that students can practice gratitude everyday so as to raise positive feelings for themselves.

Notably, in the talk show, each student had a chance to receive a lucky letter from the event organizers. Inside the letter was a quote with positive meaning, which was written carefully and decorated in an attractive way.

On this occasion, the psychologist also spent time sharing, answering questions from students about ways to manage emotions, confidences and concerns that they are facing. These close shares from the speaker are likely to energize them, help them to foster and consolidate beneficial feelings for themselves.
