Practice harmonizing relationships with training session ‘Symphony of Youth 3’

20/12/2022
Throughout the last days of December, the UEF Center of Service-Learning had some time to contemplate and communicate the idea of ‘Harmony in relationships’ with UEF students. Following the two topics ‘Symphony of Youth 01 (Sym.01) – Dealing with unpleasant emotions’ and ‘Sym.02 – Mastering emotions’, the students sought to improve, enhance, heal, and connect their relationships.

Ms Kim Phung, in charge of the series, shared that the coordinators associated the youth of students with commitments, experiences, stumbles, achievements, etc. All of them resemble songs about life. The ups and downs were an indispensable part of creating memorable melodies for the symphony of youth. The Symphony of Youth would accompany UEF students on this colorful journey of self-discovery.
The three sharing sessions of Sym.03 in December recorded more than 700 registrations of students in just two days of announcement, which showed their interest in the activities of the center and their special feelings for the programme.

The topic of Sym.03 aimed to understand the basic principles of human happiness and misery and highlight mistakes in dealing with relationships for everyone to recognise their roles and responsibilities. The most important part was the ‘ten mantras’ helping to achieve harmony in the relationships that received a favorable reaction from the students. Many of them said that these ‘mantras’ were simple, but it was difficult to do so.  They would succeed in creating the harmony they desired once the students understood who they were, their responsibilities, their curiosities, and their state of stability.
At the sharing session, the students participated in painting portraits of those who have connections with them such as their lecturers, their friends from their majors/ classes/subjects, and community partners who collaborated with UEF,... to practice two of the mantras that are ‘creating a new perspective’ and ‘putting yourself in somebody’s shoes’. Their brush strokes and symbols revolved around suggestions of their strengths, the times they admire someone, etc. This was a simple way to create a new perspective that is free from labelling weaknesses or unwillingness stemming from our desires or expectations.

Kieu Nhi, a sophomore in the Faculty of Public Relations and Communications, shared that workshops were among the programmes she sought to join. And the results had not been short of her expectations. Besides, the reporter from the Centre conveyed an easily comprehensible message that could be put into practice. Through the programme, she was able to answer questions on her own, understand the direction needed, and know how to solve problems in her relationships. This would be a useful experience for her in the future, and she looked forward to joining the next sessions of the show.

Soon, the ‘Symphony of Youth’ training series will continue with the theme ‘I am Gen Z', and the content will make UEF students feel relatable. Please subscribe to the communication channels of the UEF Centre of Service-Learning to choose your topics of interest.
----------------------------------
The Symphony of Youth is a series of training sessions on social work skills organised by the UEF Centre of Service-Learning in collaboration with the Department of Student Services dedicated to UEF students.
‘Symphony’ is a metaphor for a four-chapter symphony (corresponding to four academic years) with commitments, trials, failures, and successes that resemble the ups and downs in the melody and the intersection of the children’s relationships on their journeys of adulthood. While they begin discovering themselves and exploring life, these ups and downs will generate beautiful and emotional melodies that are meaningful to them.
