Summary of Social Innovation Project

14/11/2020
The students participating in the Social Creativity project have completed a 10-week process with a closing ceremony on the afternoon of November 11 at Ward 25 School.
The UEF Center of Service-Learning organized the project and received sponsorship from the University, UEF Charity Association, UNICEF, and professional support from SIHUB (Ho Chi Minh City Center for Application of Science and Technology Advances). HCM) and UNICEF Vietnam. At the closing session, UEF students and children looked back on the creative journey together.

The first moments of getting acquainted with class.

The project started with some initial hesitation from both sides: UEF students teaching a class for the first time and the children, mostly from the H'mong ethnic group, with reserved communication. The initiative and enthusiastic efforts of UEF students helped them overcome these barriers. They wanted to share their skills and knowledge with the children.

Messages of love from the children to UEF students

Each week, the UEF students delivered valuable content to the children. From specialized knowledge provided by UNICEF Vietnam advisors to training sessions organized by the Center of Service-Learning, the students skillfully integrated these lessons and shared them with the children. Many lessons were applied to help the children develop specific products from their initial potential ideas. Lessons on teamwork helped them enhance their unity; lessons on responsibility helped them understand the value of solutions; and lessons on management helped them develop their creative thinking skills.

The efforts of the students received great understanding and encouragement from the teachers at the UEF Charity Association. During the third activity, the class was even livelier with the visit of Mr. Do Quoc Anh - Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Mr. Nhan Cam Tri - Vice Rector of UEF. Besides gifts, the encouraging words from the teachers provided the students with a lot of energy. As a token of gratitude, the children from Ward 25 School brought an emotional H'Mong song to the teachers. In the following activities, UNICEF representatives also visited the class and highly praised the implemented activities.

As the activities progressed, more and more children participated, and the products gradually improved. Many solutions developed from the children's creativity, such as a traffic location machine model to solve traffic congestion, a self-payment trash bin model to provide additional funds for sanitation workers, and an alarm bed model to enhance discipline for the children, etc.

In the closing session, the groups confidently presented their completed creative models to the teachers, UEF students, and their classmates. They not only showcased their product ideas but also received suggestions from the teachers and classmates, helping them further develop their creative thinking and awareness of contributing to society.

The wrap-up session ended with sincere gratitude. The children thanked the UEF students for spending their valuable time to support and share knowledge, and they also thanked the teachers’ assistance. One child shared, "When guided by the UEF students, I understand the importance of teamwork. It's difficult for me to complete tasks on my own, but together we can do it."

The UEF students also expressed their gratitude to the children for actively participating and cooperating with the project activities. They also thanked themselves for courageously stepping out of their comfort place, persevering in the project for a long time, and making efforts to fulfill their responsibility of spreading skills to the community.
