Symphony of Youth: The First Theme - Dealing with Unpleasant Emotion

12/11/2021

“I absolutely enjoyed the lessons of today's sharing session, especially the sentence ‘Emotions will guide us to exist and develop’. It's true that in the past, I used to ignore my somewhat uncomfortable feelings and often just ignored them. However, through what you shared, I realized that being honest about my feelings will have a specific impact on my actions in the future.” - The sharing of L.T.M.T, Faculty of Business Administration after the morning session on November 12th, 2021.
On the 2nd, 5th and 9th of November, the UEF Service - Learning Center successfully conducted the first 3 training sessions of the series of social practical skills training programs for students called “Symphony of Youth” - Sym.01 - Coping with unpleasant emotions. Although it was held online, students still hade the opportunity to discuss, learn and discover the wonders of human emotions, as well as share and analyze situations they have experienced in their studies and life in order to know that emotions are wonderful and that emotions are our friends on the journey of self-development.

"Symphony of Youth - Youth symphony" is a series of social practice skills training organized by the UEF Service - Learning Center (SLC) belonging to the Student Affairs Office. The idea of "Symphony" metaphors the first melodies of a symphony consisting of 4 movements of the whole symphony (corresponding to 4 years of study) with betaking, challenging, failing, and succeeding as the rise and fall of the symphony orchestra, as well as the interference of relationships around students on their journey to adulthood, these ups and downs create a beautiful, catchy, emotional, unforgettable and meaningful melody for the youth

The sharing session started with the big question: "How can we be more peaceful and happier every day" which provided students with perspective and attention to their own feelings, towards the question for each person to try to find the answer for themselves in the life journey.

“How many types of emotions do we have and what factors make up human emotions?” was the first question that students discussed together, there were many different perspectives on emotions that made the discussion interesting and fun. A second-year student shared: “I realize every emotion that comes to me is a gift, that gift is almost a very valuable lesson in my life”, another said: “Today, I have learned a lot about human emotions. At the same time, I also see and hear the stories that the students shared, and I realize that I am not the only one who has problems when dealing with negative emotions. I also learn several methods to deal with negative emotions in a more positive way.”

Most of the students participating in the program initially thought that "unpleasant emotions" were the same as "difficult to swallow" dishes such as bitter melon, shrimp paste, chili or onions,... However, at the end of the session, after being able to explore emotions from a scientific and objective perspective, they all changed their mind: "I feel that unpleasant emotions are something that each person needs to have to re-evaluate themselves. As well as positive emotions help support yourself and create more value in life. Bringing joy to everyone, every emotion has its own meaning."

The workshop series "Symphony of Youth" will be held in the next 2 weeks of November, please students who are interested in this can register at the link before 8pm on 15/11/2021: https://forms.gle/DvaYE3yBmFVuiRma6
