THE VERY FIRST PRODUCT OF “SKETCH NOTE FOR GOOD” PROJECT

17/12/2021

At the end of November, the Sketchnote for Good project started receiving the first documents from The Elderly of Saigon (ESG) organization. After just two weeks, six members of the project completed a Sketchnote product called “The Love Engraver".
“The Love Engraver” is a story of Uncle Dung, a craftsman with more than 40 years of experience, the main material of the story comes from the incarnations of "reporters" from ESG roaming the streets of Saigon. It's great that they have the opportunity to meet and listen to interesting stories from previous generations. Since then, the young people have once again recreated these vivid "films" to spread this beauty to everyone.

Modern and bustling Saigon - the place where people are rushing to follow the development of the times and gradually forget the old values. However, there must be somewhere that has elderly people trying to maintain the long-standing culture in secret. One of those people was the carving artist Uncle Dung who sat at the corner of the intersection of Le Loi - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia streets for more than 40 years, since before the liberation of Saigon. His work has attracted the attention of ESG, and his relentless pursuit of creative passion for all these years has aroused the patience of many young people.

In the process of making a publication about Uncle Dung, a group of UEF students from the Sketchnote for Good project devoted such enthusiasm to their very first product. They actively discussed ideas; edited layout, content circuit, and main colors. These activities were very challenging and required subtlety in processing ideas. Nevertheless, with the strong vibration from Uncle Dung's story, the product "The Love Engraver" was born to meet the expectations of partners and members.
