“Step In - Stand Out”: K25 Freshmen to Embark on a Journey to Shine and Stand Out

Every generation of students passing through the university gates carries their own unique story, yet they all share a common starting point. For the 2025 cohort (K25) of the Faculty of English at UEF, that moment was marked by a vibrant Welcome Ceremony themed “Step In, Stand Out” – stepping in to begin and shining to affirm oneself – held on the evening of September 29.

The new journey of the Faculty of English’s “new recruits” will always be supported and guided by dedicated lecturers and partner enterprises.

 

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Đỗ Quốc Anh, Vice Chairman of the University Board, Dr. Nhan Cẩm Trí, Vice President, Dr. Lý Thiên Trang, Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation, along with distinguished figures from various departments.

 

Representing the Faculty of English were Dr. Phạm Huy Cường, Dean of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dương Mỹ Thẩm, Vice Dean, Mr. Nguyễn Đình Tuấn, MA, Vice Dean, Mrs. Hoàng Thị Ngọc Hiền, MA, Assistant to the Dean, and all faculty lecturers. The presence of prestigious international partners such as National Geographic Learning, Easy Education, IELTS Masters, IELTS Fighter, UK Education, IELTS with Charles, and Jaxtina English Center underscored a commitment: the new students will study in an environment closely tied to practical applications and global integration.

In her welcoming speech, Dr. Lý Thiên Trang proudly shared UEF’s achievements, such as its 4-star QS Stars international rating and the FIBAA-accredited English Language program. These accomplishments represent open doors, ready for freshmen to embark on a journey of international-standard knowledge. She encouraged the students: “Embrace your university years and shine in your own unique way”. This was a reaffirmation that every step into UEF holds value, and the key is for students to seize the moment, live fully, and find their own path.

If “Step In” signifies taking the first step, “Stand Out” embodies the aspiration to shine. In his speech, Dr. Phạm Huy Cường painted a broad picture for the students. He noted that career opportunities for those proficient in English have never been more abundant in today’s globalized world. However, these opportunities only become reality when students assert themselves, stay updated, and adapt. For this reason, the Faculty of English continuously innovates, integrating AI trends and cutting-edge technologies into its curriculum to help students keep pace with societal demands and be ready to break through.

The “Stand Out” journey was exemplified during the ceremony through inspiring role models. Freshman Đỗ Yến Nhi, the top entrance scorer for the 2025 cohort, embodied the promising start with pride and responsibility. Meanwhile, alumna Võ Thị Diễm Quỳnh, the top graduate of the 2021 cohort and currently a Translation Assistant at Hoa Sen Group Corporation, returned to share her journey from a student to a confident young professional, leaving her mark through research, academic competitions, and extracurricular activities. These two generations – one just beginning and one who has already walked the path – together created a vivid and meaningful narrative for the event.

The “Stand Out” spirit was not only reflected in academic achievements but also recognized through contributions to student movements. On this occasion, the Faculty honored outstanding individuals who received talent scholarships, proactive students in Youth Union and Student Association activities, and those dedicated to teaching assistance and research. Each award served as encouragement for the next generation to continue shining, making their university journey even more vibrant.

 

Recognized efforts inspire “new recruits” to strive and shine.

 

Alongside this, the network of academic, research, and sports clubs was introduced as “stages” for students to discover their passions and assert their individuality. There, every student has the chance to “Step In” – participate and experience – and then “Stand Out” through their talents, creativity, and enthusiasm. As the program concluded, its message lingered as a reminder that stepping into UEF is not just about learning but also about growing, affirming oneself, and shining on one’s own journey.

 

Beyond the classroom, freshmen can learn and grow in club, youth union, and student association environments.
