The Faculty of English Updating Trends in AI Application in Research

10/22/2025

In the context of artificial intelligence (AI) becoming an indispensable tool in the global academic landscape, the Faculty of English at UEF has actively embraced this trend through various practical activities for faculty and students.

One such activity was the successful workshop titled “Integrating Artificial Intelligence into the Design and Implementation of Scientific Research” for the 2025-2026 academic year, which took place on the morning of October 22. This program not only provided in-depth knowledge but also served as a valuable academic forum for faculty and students to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and expand their research thinking in the digital age.

The event featured insights on the beneficial application of AI in research.

The program was attended by Dr. Pham Huy Cuong, Head of the English Department; Associate Professor Dr. Duong My Tham, Deputy Head of the English Department; Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Luan, Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology, and International Projects; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan, Deputy Head of the English Department; Ms. Hoang Thi Ngoc Hien, Faculty Assistant; along with many faculty members and students.

In his opening remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Luan emphasized that incorporating AI into research is not just a trend but a necessary transition to enhance the quality, effectiveness, and creativity within academia at UEF. He asserted that the university always encourages its departments to take the lead in applying new technologies in teaching and research.

The workshop featured guest speaker Dr. Tran Tin Nghi, Head of the Foreign Languages Department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry. He discussed how AI is transforming the landscape of research activities. According to him, artificial intelligence does not replace humans; rather, it serves as an “intelligent academic assistant” that enables researchers to enhance their cognitive capabilities, synthesize ideas, find resources, and analyze data more quickly, thoroughly, and scientifically.

Using real-world examples, the speaker illustrated how AI supports researchers at each stage, from idea formation and theoretical framework construction to designing research questions and hypotheses, as well as choosing analytical methods. He also guided participants to practice using AI tools to identify research gaps, organize resources, and verify the feasibility of research topics. These visual demonstrations helped faculty and students better understand the integration of AI in the research process as a novel, effective, and highly applicable approach.

In addition, faculty members discussed the ethics of using AI, the reliability of data generated by machines, and the potential that artificial intelligence can bring to interdisciplinary research.

The workshop not only helped participants access new tools but also opened up new perspectives on the role of AI in the journey of knowledge creation. Through this meaningful activity, the English Department continues to affirm its commitment to connecting technology with academia and building a modern research forum where human intelligence and artificial intelligence work together to create new and sustainable academic values.
