Basic Information

Location: Purdue University Northwest is located in the state of Indiana. The university has two campuses at Calumet (thành phố Hammond, lớn nhấtTây bắc Indiana) and North Central (Westville), lying 60 kilometres apart from each other. Northwest Indiana is the second largest urban area in Indiana state after the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area. Many state universities are situated in this area, and it is proximate to numerous other universities elsewhere in Indiana and in the Chicago metropolitan area. The Calumet Campus in Hammond city are only 40 kms southeast of downtown Chicago.

Climate: humid continental climate, withstable temperature hovering around 9 to 11 degrees Celsius. Northwest Indiana has cold winters and warm, wet summers.
Year of establishment: 2016 (Merger between Calumet and North Central). Calumet Campus was founded in 1946, and North Central Campus in 1948.

Outstanding features: PUN belongs to the Purdue University System, one of the largest and oldest public university systems in the US, possessing international acclaim. On March 4, 2016, unification of the two campuses was officially approved by the Higher Learning Commission, resulting in the creation of Purdue University Northwest, thefifth largest public universities in Indiana with more than 15,000 students and more than 70 graduate and undergraduate programs. Purdue Northwest’s larger scale provides enhanced opportunities for students, such as more choices in programs, a wider variety of shared online courses and more options for community engagement and professional development.

Overview of PUN

Facilities: include the above-mentioned two campuses. The North Central campus has three academic buildings and a veterinary emergency facility. The grounds have Shakespeare's Garden adjacent to a picturesque pond, tennis courts, an eighteen-hole disc golf course, a baseball diamond, and four outdoor basketball courts. The Calumet campus has a total of 14 buildings in use, containing a variety of laboratories, workshops, demonstration classrooms, a closed circuit television system, 60 faculty offices, a new library, student center, bookstore, offices, classrooms, and multi-purpose rooms. Purdue Calumet became a residential campus in 2005 with the construction of University Village, a $16.5 million apartment-style complex with accommodations for 376 students.

PUN offers programs for both undergraduates and graduates. Some of its programs are accredited all over the US, including business administration, human resources, mechanical and electrical engineering, IT, education and nursing. Purdue University Calumet has formally adopted experiential learning — the structured integration of traditional classroom and textbook learning with the applied learning that occurs within a real world environment — as a requirement of all undergraduate students. Furthermore, Undergraduate students at Purdue North Central can transfer to any other Purdue campuses and complete their degrees there, which are noted for their engineering, agriculture, and business administration programs, which consistently rank among the best in the country and the world.
