On the morning of September 20, UEF, in collaboration with Effective Altruism (EA) Vietnam, organized the EA Summit Vietnam 2025. This marked the first time the prestigious international forum was held in Vietnam after being hosted in many countries around the world, providing Vietnamese students with an opportunity to access progressive approaches to philanthropy and social impact.

The program was attended by Ms. Tran Thao Nguyen, Head of Effective Altruism Vietnam. Representing UEF were Dr. Nhan Cam Tri, Vice President of UEF, and Ms. Tran Thi My Phuong, Director of the UEF Center of Service-Learning.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Nhan Cam Tri emphasized that co-organizing EA Summit Vietnam 2025 gave the University an opportunity to expand students’ access to global knowledge while promoting the values of humanity and social responsibility. He expressed his expectation that UEF students, as well as young people in general, would gain insights into evidence-based and strategic approaches to philanthropy, enabling them to create sustainable impacts through both community activities and their future careers.

The forum focused on introducing the core concepts of Effective Altruism (EA), an approach that combines critical thinking, data-driven decision-making, and compassion to identify the most effective ways of helping others. Beyond raising awareness, the program encouraged young people to engage in strategic charitable activities that maximize positive and sustainable social impact.

One of the highlights of EA Summit Vietnam 2025 was its series of discussion sessions and thematic presentations, where speakers shared diverse perspectives on social impact, technology, animal welfare, and community development. The forum provided participants with direct access to foundational concepts, analytical tools, and practical experiences in applying Effective Altruism to both personal and professional contexts.

The forum featured a wide range of topics and speakers. Opening the program, Pham Hoang Mai provided an overview of Effective Altruism through the session “Welcome to the Summit and Introduction to Effective Altruism.” This was followed by Vo Phuong Linh, who delivered practical insights in “Introduction to Impact Evaluation for Social Programs.”

Nguyen Khanh Linh and Nguyen Hieu Minh explored the field of technology through "AI Safety and AI Alignment: From Concepts to Practice." Scott Green addressed animal welfare issues in "Doing the Most Good for Animals: A Case Study from Vietnam," while Ameer Virani examined "The Neglectedness Aspect of the ITN Framework and Aquatic Animal Welfare."

In addition, Bui Quang Hiep shared perspectives on “Three Fundamental Concepts of Rationality and LessWrong,” and David Varga introduced participants to “Epistemology: Seeing the World More Clearly.” Concluding the forum, Belle Koh highlighted the importance of mentorship through the session “Magnify Mentoring: Mentorship in Building Careers, Confidence, and Community.”

With the companionship of UEF, EA Summit Vietnam 2025 reaffirmed the University's pioneering role in linking students with international knowledge and reflected its long-term commitment to holistic and sustainable education. Through the forum, UEFers experienced an enriching and practical academic environment that fosters progressive thinking, compassion, and social responsibility, empowering them to become capable and responsible global citizens.
