The class provided valuable financial knowledge from an international perspective
The cost of capital is regarded as the minimum rate of return a business must achieve to ensure the efficiency and sustainability of an investment project. More than just a calculated figure, it reflects the effectiveness of capital utilization, enabling businesses to make strategic choices and optimize value creation.
During the session, students explored three main topics: understanding the concept and role of cost of capital in financial operations; analyzing its two key components – cost of debt and cost of equity; and methods of determining Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC), which measures the average return a company needs when using both debt and equity financing. These seemingly complex theories were made accessible through practical examples, making them easier to understand and remember.
