Student research

28/02/2026
The ability to self-study, conduct and complete an independent academic research is one of the core learning outcomes set by the Faculty of Law in designing and implementing our academic programs. In modern legal education, mastering legal rules is necessary but not sufficient. More importantly, students must know how to raise legal questions, identify research problems, search for information and process relevant sources, analyze and critically evaluate different arguments to develop academic viewpoints. For this reason, student scientific research activitie is an essential component of the Faculty’s training strategy, contributing to the development of independent, logical, and creative legal thinking.

In the context of the deep globalization and the rapid development of advanced technologies has created many new legal issues that require updated and interdisciplinary research approaches. Today’s law students must have the ability to anticipate legal trends, identify regulatory gaps, and propose solutions for legal reform. Therefore, developing research skills at the undergraduate level is an important preparation for lifelong learning, as well as for future involvement in academic research, policy consultation, and legislative activities.

Recognizing this importance, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance organizes an annual student research program that provides students with the opportunity to directly conduct research projects under the guidance of experienced lecturers with strong academic and practical backgrounds. Each research project is supervised throughout the entire process, from developing a research proposal, defining research questions, and selecting appropriate methodologies, to collecting and analyzing materials, completing the final manuscript, and presenting and defending the research results.

The main research orientations of the student research program cover all areas of law taught by the Faculty, including civil law, criminal law, administrative law, constitutional law, public international law, international trade law, economic law, and specialized fields such as competition law, environmental law, intellectual property law, labor law, ect. All these fields provide fertile ground for research, especially when closely connected to socio-economic development and the ongoing need for institutional improvement. With a learner-centered approach and a strong emphasis on research capacity, the Faculty of Law is committed to continuously investing resources, improving support mechanisms, and expanding academic cooperation to ensure that the student research program develops in a sustainable and effective manner.

Here is the list of high-quality research projects conducted by students of the Faculty of Law over the past academic years, which have been rigorously evaluated and approved by the Faculty’s Scientific Committee, and have received top awards at the university, municipal, and ministerial levels.
