Phuong Thy’s optimistic view of the reason to contribute to the community

In every corner of student life, there are memorable and lively stories. However, the most important thing is the ability to collect those experiences to form a meaningful journey. Let's find out about it through the perspective of Nguyen Hong Phuong Thy - a 3rd year student majoring in International Business at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF).


Phuong Thy is a girl full of positive energy and passion for contributing to the community. Her university life is not only marked by academic achievements but also by immersing in a creative and meaningful environment at UEF Center of Service-Learning (TT.KNCĐ UEF).


Like many other students, Phuong Thy started her journey at a difficult time, when online classes gradually became popular due to the impact of the global pandemic. While studying and connecting with friends through the screen, Thy became aware of the power of community and wanted to contribute to society. Thy immediately learnt about helpful activities through the school's fanpage, and she came across the Sketchnote For Good (SFG) project’s recruiting advertisement under Center of Service-Learning, so she decided to join in.

Although, in the beginning, it was just a little effort to "not waste time during the difficult pandemic period", Thy gradually realized that this is where you can really do something special,  and help you spread the positive things about yourself to others.


At the start of season 2 of the project, Phuong Thy went in the document visualization department. With the desire to create value for the community through drawings, she has completed her mission well. However, with the ability to draw - according to her self-assessment - "only stopped at being cute", Thy gradually discovers that her current position is not really suitable for her to develop herself. The story began to take a different turn when the girl decided to ask the Head of the Coordination Department to try out a new role in season 3, which is secretary to the Head of the Coordination Department and financial manager of the SFG project. By season 4, the project has grown stronger, financial management has become an important independent department and is primarily managed by her. Up to now, Thy is holding the position of head of finance and fundraising, which is one of the indispensable roles in SFG.

After nearly 2 years of staying and working with SFG, Phuong Thy has succeeded in finding a suitable development direction for herself. The journey from member of the document visualization department to head of the finance and fundraising department is not a small change but also a testament to her constant efforts to adapt and improve herself.


When asked: "Which field do you feel you are more inclined towards?" Phuong Thy humbly shared that: "Currently, Thy is very interested in working in the finance and fundraising field because even though I have been participating in SFG for a long time, I can only see my drawing ability at the level of Just Cute."

Playing an important role in the finance and fundraising department, Phuong Thy revealed that this is not just a job, but also her passion and love. Phuong Thy said that when she is tired of school deadlines, doing project activities with SFG helps her relieve stress, as a hobby that dispels the pressure of homework.


"Be who you want to be" - the school's slogan - is also the most favorite speech, it is Phuong Thy's philosophy of life. She always tries to walk on her chosen path, not only in studying but also in community activities. It can be said that Thy is a testament to the power of belief in oneself and the ability to accept challenges.

Phuong Thy is not only a story that shows us the value of positive deeds but also a living proof of the quote "Be who you want to be." Life is a journey, and Phuong Thy has chosen SFG to make her journey meaningful and creative, helping to fulfill her desire to "create value for the community".
