Choosing Your Major with UEF in the AI Era: Defining the Value of Chinese and Korean Language Studies

03/01/2026
In the context of artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly transforming how people learn, work, and communicate, choosing a field of study aligned with long-term development trends has become a major concern for many students and parents.

To provide in-depth and practical insights into language-related majors in the digital era, on the evening of January 2nd, UEF continued its admissions livestream series “Choosing Your Major with UEF in the AI Era,” focusing on Chinese Language and Korean Language programs.

The consultation session, held on TikTok at 7:00 PM, addressed many concerns of Gen Z (2k8) about two “hot” majors in the language field.

The program featured Dr. Bui Thi My Linh – Head of the Korean Language program, and M.A. Hua Pham Cam Tu – Lecturer of the Chinese Language program. Drawing from their teaching and research experience, the speakers provided multidimensional insights into the transformation of language studies in the AI era.

The discussion highlighted the sustained appeal of Korean and Chinese Language majors, suitable traits for pursuing these fields, and key differences between studying languages at university and at language centers or through self-study. In particular, specialized study tracks, professional competency standards, and real-world labor market demands were clearly analyzed, helping students better visualize their academic and career pathways.

Additionally, the impact of AI on language studies attracted strong interest from high school students. Rather than viewing AI as a threat, the speakers emphasized its role as a “new colleague” that supports translation, data processing, and multilingual communication. However, human-centered competencies such as linguistic thinking, cultural understanding, emotional intelligence, negotiation, and intercultural communication remain irreplaceable. Effectively leveraging AI as a supportive tool will open up new career opportunities and enhance competitiveness in the global workforce.

AI brings many conveniences and opens up attractive opportunities for language learners.

Through the sharing of Dr. Bui Thi My Linh and M.A. Hua Pham Cam Tu, Gen Z (2k8) students also gained a clearer understanding of the learning environment for Korean and Chinese Language programs at UEF. The university emphasizes a balance between academic knowledge, practical training, and real-world experiences. Students can participate in cultural exchanges, internships, and business networking activities, gradually shifting from “learning to know” to “learning to work,” and becoming ready to adapt to the evolving demands of the digital-era labor market.

Beyond providing career orientation, the program also created an interactive space between lecturers and prospective students, along with attractive giveaways, notably an iPhone 17 for lucky livestream participants.

With practical content, updated perspectives, and insights from experienced lecturers, the “Choosing Your Major with UEF in the AI Era” series is expected to serve as an important bridge, helping students feel more confident in choosing Chinese Language or Korean Language majors in the upcoming admissions season.
