International Students Explore a Professional Working Environment at the Intellectual Property Office of Ho Chi Minh City
With the aim of helping international students broaden their comprehensive understanding of intellectual property protection activities in Vietnam, on the afternoon of November 19, the Faculty of Law at UEF organized a practical learning session at the Representative Office of the Intellectual Property Office of Ho Chi Minh City for exchange students from Guangxi Minzu University (China).The visit contributed to strengthening students’ professional knowledge while providing them with opportunities to access a real working environment in the field of intellectual property.

Accompanying the student delegation were Dr. Trần Vang Phủ – Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law; Mr. Nguyễn Nam Trung, MA – Director of the U.S. Law Center at UEF; and Ms. Hồ Mỹ Hạnh, MA – Lecturer of the Faculty of Law. Representatives of the host organization included Ms. Trần Thị Tuyết Mai and Mr. Trần Ngọc Hiếu, representing the enterprise. The program was also attended by lecturers from Guangxi Minzu University (China).
At the unit, Ms. Trần Thị Tuyết Mai introduced an overview of the functions and responsibilities of the Representative Office of the Intellectual Property Office in Ho Chi Minh City, along with the professional training programs currently being implemented. In addition, she shared insights into the connection between the Ho Chi Minh City office and the headquarters in Hanoi, which is responsible for appraisal and dossier processing procedures after the legal examination stage. These explanations helped students gain a deeper understanding of the organizational structure and the role of the Intellectual Property Office in protecting intellectual property rights.

Continuing the session, Mr. Trần Ngọc Hiếu presented the trademark registration process, appraisal steps, and the issuance of protection certificates for intellectual property objects such as inventions, industrial designs, and trademarks. He also analyzed common mistakes made during dossier preparation, helping students clearly identify professional requirements at each stage of the process. Through this, students were introduced to confidentiality regulations, information security standards, and the specific legal characteristics of the intellectual property field. The shared knowledge enabled international students to broaden their experiences and learn within a professional working environment.
At the end of the session, students directly visited the dossier reception and processing areas. The systematic working space and clearly defined procedures allowed students to fully visualize the operational process of the unit. Many international students expressed their interest in this practical experience, considering it a valuable opportunity to expand their knowledge and accumulate practical experience.
