1. Program Overview
The Data Science undergraduate program at the University of Economics and Finance Ho Chi Minh City (UEF) has been implemented under a high-quality training model since 2020 and is managed by the Faculty of Information Technology. The program is established in accordance with Circular No. 11/2017/TT-BGDĐT dated September 6, 2017 of the Ministry of Education and Training, and Official Dispatch No. 234/BGDĐT-GDĐH dated January 16, 2015.
Each year, the curriculum is regularly reviewed and updated based on feedback from learners and employers, and evaluated and approved by the University’s Scientific Council.
Data Science is a research and application-oriented field that focuses on discovering valuable and hidden insights from large-scale datasets through the use of mathematical, statistical, and computational methods.
 
 
Students participate in hands-on learning and experiential activities at enterprises
Although many universities offer Data Science programs, UEF continues to attract students in this field due to the following advantages:

2. General Objectives
The program aims to train Data Science graduates with strong political awareness, professional ethics, and good physical health; solid and in-depth knowledge and skills in Data Science; and the ability to effectively analyze, exploit, and utilize data in economic and social sectors.
Graduates are equipped with both fundamental and advanced professional knowledge, strong practical competencies, adaptability to the dynamic market economy, and the ability to integrate into advanced technological environments at regional and global levels. The program also provides a solid academic foundation for lifelong learning and postgraduate studies.
3. Specific Objectives
Graduates of the Data Science program are expected to achieve the following outcomes:
  • PO1: Fundamental knowledge of natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, political theory, Vietnamese law, national defense and security, and physical education.
Participation in academic competitions to strengthen knowledge and skills
  • PO2: Fundamental and advanced theoretical knowledge of Data Science to effectively adapt to various roles such as theoretical research, model development, technical design, and the development of solutions for data collection, storage, processing, and analysis to support management, consulting, and decision-making in economic and social sectors.
  • PO3: Teamwork skills, problem-solving skills, communication skills, and the ability for self-learning and independent research to meet practical demands.
  • PO4: Skills in reasoning, analysis, forecasting, statistical processing, and problem-solving in data storage and information systems across organizations, enterprises, and educational institutions.
  • PO5: Skills in evaluating work quality after completion, critical thinking, and selecting alternative solutions in uncertain or changing environments.
  • PO6: Strong political awareness, compliance with laws and regulations, and good physical health.
  • PO7: Professional ethics specific to the Data Science profession and a strong sense of responsibility toward society and the community.

Graduates of the Data Science program can pursue careers such as:
  • Data Analysts working in business organizations, managing and processing daily-generated datasets in fields such as finance, banking, and marketing.
  • Data processing and statistical specialists supporting decision-making in government agencies and public institutions.
  • Lecturers and researchers at universities, colleges, and research institutes in Vietnam and internationally.
  • Data Engineers or Analysts at domestic and international IT software solution companies, working with both small-scale and big data systems.
  • Data management specialists in business organizations handling large-scale daily data.
