03/26/2026

To support faculty and postgraduate students in enhancing their research capabilities and successfully conquering prestigious international academic journals, the UEF Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management organized a specialized workshop titled “Unlocking International Publications” on the morning of March 25, featuring a leading expert from Malaysia.

The program was attended by Dr. Ngo Minh Hai – Vice President of UEF, the Board of Deans of the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, along with faculty members, postgraduates, and students interested in international scientific publication.

UEF faculty and students meet with an international expert with extensive research experience.

The keynote speaker of the workshop was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahtiar Mohamad – a veteran expert in research and innovation from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). With over 120 international publications, including more than 60 indexed in Scopus and an impressive h-index, he provided practical insights and clear strategies for the scientific publication journey. During the program, the speaker offered an overview of the international publication system while sharing effective approaches to journal selection, manuscript construction, and the submission process. Drawing from personal experience, he emphasized the importance of understanding global academic standards to build a publication strategy suitable for each research field.

UEF representatives express gratitude to the speaker.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Ngo Minh Hai emphasized the essential role of scientific publication in the academic journey, especially at the doctoral level. According to him, having at least one or two international articles is almost a mandatory requirement for completing the training program, showing that scientific publication is not only a milestone but also a measure of research quality. However, reality shows that many postgraduates still face difficulties right from the starting stage. Faced with a wealth of resources and a diverse system of journals, many are still confused in orienting and building an effective publication strategy. From this reality, UEF is step-by-step implementing solutions to promote scientific research activities, increasing support for faculty and postgraduates in their international publication journeys, aiming to enhance academic quality and the University's position.

In the in-depth sharing section, the speaker analyzed the evaluation criteria and publication orientation in the field of Business and Management. He highlighted the differences between the two popular indexing systems, WoS (Web of Science) and Scopus, the role of subject-specific rankings in guiding journal selection, and the value of publishing in high-quality journals for both individual and organizational academic development.

Furthermore, he shared detailed information about the academic article review process—from peer review and revision to the final publication decision—helping participants better understand the strict requirements and standards of the international academic community. Notably, the speaker pointed out the connection between publishing research and opportunities to participate in scientific peer reviews, thereby expanding academic networks and developing a sustainable research career.

Faculty and students exchange experiences in scientific research and international publication.

In addition to providing professional knowledge, the workshop contributed to inspiring UEF faculty and students to be more confident on their path of research and international academic integration. By connecting with experts, updating trends, and sharing practical experiences, the program continues to affirm UEF's orientation in enhancing scientific research capacity and step-by-step making its mark on the global academic map.
