UEF launches Pre-Doctoral Programme Phase 2, strengthening research capacity for PhD study

To enhance independent research capabilities and prepare a solid academic foundation for young faculty, researchers, and students aiming to pursue PhDs both domestically and internationally, on the afternoon of January 10th, UEF held the opening Ceremony for the Pre-Doctoral Programme phase 2, 2025.

UEF's representatives attending the program included: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Luan - Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology and International Projects, PhD. Phan Thi Nha Truc - Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology and International Projects, PhD. Le Quoc Thang - Deputy Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Training. On the guest side was Associate Professor, Doctor of Science. Thai Van Nam - Director of the Graduate Institute, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), with students of the second Pre-Doctoral Programme course.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Luan emphasized that the Pre-Doctoral Programme is an important stepping stone that helps students develop a standardized research mindset, become familiar with the international academic environment, and gradually build a well-structured doctoral application. He hopes the program will not only support students in terms of knowledge and research skills, but also contribute to building a dynamic young research community capable of integration and spreading sustainable academic values.

According to the program content, the second phase of the Pre-Doctoral Programme in 2025 will be implemented from January to March 2026, with in-person training. The program focuses on foundational modules such as research methodology, research design, data analysis (Python, R, STATA, Excel), academic writing, and international publication Simultaneously, it facilitates students' participation in practical research projects as research assistants (RAs) under the guidance of professors and experts from both within and outside the country.

In addition, students will receive support in practicing writing Statement of Purpose (SoP), completing working papers, preparing letters of recommendation, and guiding them in choosing suitable schools and majors when submitting their PhD applications. Regular academic seminars, discussions of international papers, and networking with former graduate students are also important highlights of the program.

The expected outcome of the course is that each student can complete at least one working paper, form a sustainable academic network, and be ready to apply for prestigious doctoral programs within the next one to two years.

The opening ceremony concluded, ushering in a serious academic journey for the second phase of the Pre-Doctoral Programme in 2025. The UEF team wishes the students complete the course, achieve their goals, and soon become a high-quality research workforce, aiming for international academic standards.
