In today’s era of globalization and deep international economic integration, import–export activities are becoming increasingly dynamic in Vietnam. To help students gain a practical understanding of how ports operate efficiently amid this global momentum, the Faculty of Economics at UEF organized a special seminar on July 31 as part of the Port Management and Operations course.

The session, themed “A Contemporary Case Study on Port Operations: Analysis and Strategic Solutions,” featured Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Chien , Deputy Head of Public Relations, Marketing Department, Saigon Newport Corporation, who shared in-depth perspectives on modern port management practices.
The seminar provided valuable real-world insights for UEF students in the Port Management and Operations course

Also attending the event were Ms. Do Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Head of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management program, along with training specialists from Tan Cang–STC.
The Faculty of Economics presented a certificate of appreciation to the guest speaker
Celebrating over 30 years of development, Saigon Newport Corporation has established itself as Vietnam’s leading professional and modern container port operator, providing a wide range of services including cargo handling, logistics, maritime operations, rescue and piloting services, real estate, and construction.

In her presentation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Chien focused on five key topics:
+ The company’s transformation journey,

+ An overview of port communication systems,

+ The concept and necessity of the E-Port system,

+ E-Port operations in cargo handling, and

+ A virtual tour of the Tan Cang–Cat Lai Terminal.

The speaker introduced students to various aspects of the E-Port system and its impact on port operations.

According to Ms.Thanh Chien the E-Port is an online platform that enables customers to interact directly with the port digitally. Its “3T+Q” functionality allows users to:

+Track container information and vessel schedules,

+Complete online cargo delivery and receipt procedures,

+Make electronic payments and manage digital invoices, and

+Monitor shipment data in real time.

These features, she explained, help businesses save time, reduce paperwork, lower costs, and streamline operations — all while enhancing transparency and efficiency.

Throughout the session, Ms. Thanh Chien engaged students with videos and real-life examples to answer key questions such as: Why is E-Port necessary? Who participates in the logistics chain? What are the differences between pre- and post-E-Port operations? Her dynamic delivery helped UEF students visualize complex processes more clearly and grasp practical applications. She emphasized one crucial takeaway: “We must be ready to change in order to adapt.”

Beyond learning technical knowledge, students also had the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas, and gain fresh perspectives on the logistics industry from a seasoned professional.

Analyzing and addressing challenges in port management remains a timely and essential topic in Vietnam’s economic context. Through the expert’s detailed case study and shared experiences, UEF students gained valuable insights and practical lessons that will enrich their academic learning and future professional endeavors in logistics and port operations.
