"The Tragedy of Great Power Politics"

In the book "The Tragedy of Great power politics," John Mearsheimer argues that the nature of all countries in the world is the same. They are constantly seeking power, struggling to survive, existence, and ambition to become hegemonic in the anarchic system. As a result, countries tend to maximize strength and pursue any other part of the system, helping to ensure optimal national security and survival. For Mearsheimer, in anarchy with many pitfalls, all powers are revisionists of the international order. They only accept status quo power if they achieve hegemonic status - the strongest in the global game.

The second week of the Reference books for the IR project would like to introduce the Book Chapter Review written by MSc. Pham Hoang Son, Lecturer of the Faculty of International Relations. "The tragedy of big country politics" is a valuable book for students majoring in International Relations. The book equips an enormous and profound knowledge base for specialized subjects such as international relations theory, Vietnamese foreign policy, introduction to global security, history of international relations, and international relations—Northeast Asian system.
