15/04/2022

Following the content of searching, reading and taking notes on documents, the Faculty of International Relations held the Workshop "University study methods for international relations students K2021" - SESSION 2, with the topic: Listening and recording skills copy lectures.

The training session revolved around the content of instructing students in effective methods of taking lecture notes and videos from the experiences of MSc. Le Phuong Cat Nhi and MSc. Vo Ngoc Bich Vy, 02 lecturers of the Faculty of International Relations

“What do you usually do with your notes?”is the question that MSc. Le Phuong Cat Nhi gives the students to grasp how they use the notes section after listening to the lecture. Besides, taking notes of the whole lecture or the main ideas of the lecture is the second exchange that Ms. Nhi mentioned with the students. Through that, Ms. Nhi wants to emphasize the role of taking notes while listening to the lecture, which is to systemize the knowledge of the lesson and generate ideas for articles/essays

According to Ms. Nhi, a complete notebook is composed of a system of meaningful acronyms and symbols, including the main idea and many extensions, used flexibly for the purposes of students. In order to have effective note-taking, Ms. Nhi introduced you to 02 means to take notes, the Notion application and the Cornell Method. Accordingly, to implement this method, students need to divide their notes (or notebook pages) into 2 columns: The left column to record the main ideas (or questions, keywords), the right column to jot down details related to the corresponding main idea on the left. At the end of the page, is a summary of what they have learned. This method of note-taking will help learners remember the lesson longer and systematically organize the lesson, easily finding it again when needed.

Next, MSc Vo Ngoc Bich Vy shared with students two main ideas: effective note-taking methods and some tips to keep in mind during the note-taking process. The note-taking methods introduced by Ms. Bich Vy are: outline method, hybrid method and mind-map method. Outline is a commonly used, hierarchical way of taking notes. This method has a number of strengths such as: simple, easy to get used to, suitable for theoretical classes with clear outlines; can be used to review right after the lesson; optimized when implemented on technology applications. However, this method is only suitable when the teacher indicates the outline from the beginning and students will have difficulty if they want to insert ideas when writing on paper.

The notes that Ms. Bich Vy shares to students include: always change the notes to suit the purpose of use; Practice catching keywords as well, but use acronyms to make notes faster, use more colors, highlight important things in notes. Ms. Bich Vy also offers note-taking methods such as notebooks and note-taking tools. Besides, taking good notes comes from good listening. Therefore, students should pay attention to listen to the linking words, connecting sentences, leading sentences into the content of the Lecturer's lesson to determine the ideas to write down as well as grasp the topic of the lecture; learn information about the lecture through outlines, textbooks, references, in the process of taking notes requires high concentration; The review process after taking notes are all things that Ms. Bich Vy emphasized to the students

Through 02 sharing sessions on university study methods, the Faculty of International Relations believes that the freshmen of the Faculty have strengthened their knowledge about how to study at university effectively.
