To help students envision their career paths early and equip themselves with the necessary competencies before entering the labor market, on March 16, within the framework of FIT Career Day, the UEF Faculty of Information Technology organized a career orientation program for students of the 2024 and 2025 cohorts majoring in: Information Technology, Data Science, Software Engineering, E-commerce, and Graphic Design.

The program featured sharing sessions from corporate experts, providing numerous practical perspectives on industry trends and human resource requirements in the context of digital transformation and the robust development of AI.

For the Information Technology, Data Science, and Software Engineering majors, the program's speaker was Mr. Truong Quang Bao - Deputy Director of the Software Testing Center, FPT Software, FPT Corporation. During his sharing session, the speaker introduced an overview of FPT's technology ecosystem as well as the working environment at a major tech company. Based on the practical operations of the enterprise, he analyzed the wide-open career opportunities in the technology sector during the current period, as the human resource demand for programming, data, software testing, and technological solutions is constantly increasing.

A highlight of the orientation session was a mock interview with students participating in the workshop. Through situational questions and the students' responses, the speaker specifically analyzed the strengths and limitations that students often encounter when entering the interview round at enterprises. In particular, three factors were emphasized: professional skills, work attitude, and English proficiency. Drawing from practical recruitment experience, Mr. Truong Quang Bao also offered various pieces of advice to help students better prepare for their career journeys, such as cultivating a problem-solving mindset, actively learning new technologies, building a progressive attitude, and developing communication skills in an international environment.

For the E-commerce major, students listened to sharing from Ms. Pham Thu Ngan – Social Marketing Manager, Haravan Technology Joint Stock Company, with the topic "E-commerce in the AI era: Career opportunities and necessary competencies for students". The speaker painted an overall picture of the development trends of e-commerce in Vietnam, while analyzing how businesses are applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize business operations, from analyzing customer data and automating marketing to personalizing the shopping experience.

Through practical case studies on AI application in e-commerce, Ms. Pham Thu Ngan helped students better understand how technology is transforming the entire operational chain of the industry. Consequently, the speaker introduced the "e-commerce industry map in the AI era", pointing out potential career positions such as e-commerce platform manager, business data analyst, digital marketer, platform operations manager, and digital product developer. Besides professional knowledge, students were encouraged to develop core competencies such as a data mindset, adaptability to new technologies, content creation, and user behavior analysis skills.

For the Graphic Design major, the orientation content focused on helping students clearly understand the gap between beautiful design in an academic setting and design that meets practical job requirements. The speaker emphasized that a design product is not only created from beautiful pixels but also stems from research thinking, the sketching process, mockups, and the story behind the product. Therefore, during their studies, students need to focus on building a portfolio that showcases their personal mark, from layout, style, and representative images to professional presentation, while avoiding basic errors like spelling mistakes in typography.

Alongside professional capacity, personal image and professional attitude are also vital factors for designers. A neat demeanor, good communication style, and the ability to convey ideas help students make a good impression on businesses. When entering the working environment, designers must adapt to work realities such as deadline pressure, speed and technical requirements, and scientific file management, while constantly learning to improve their capacity.

A notable point emphasized was the balance between the creative ego and the commercial goal of a project. Design students need to learn how to listen to customers, understand market needs, collaborate with colleagues, and develop a problem-solving mindset instead of just focusing on the artistic element. A positive attitude, a progressive spirit, and the ability to adapt to work realities are considered crucial factors to help students go far in their careers.

Through this series of career orientation programs, students from the Faculty of Information Technology not only gained access to practical perspectives from businesses but also had the opportunity to self-assess their own abilities to better prepare for their future career journeys. The sharing from experts contributed to helping students understand that, besides professional knowledge, skills, attitude, and a continuous learning spirit are the keys to success in the modern working environment.
