English Language Master’s Students Defend Capstone Projects with Many Published Studies

11/15/2025
In language research, even a small lens on culture, teaching methodology, or learning motivation can open new perspectives on human understanding and the dynamics of knowledge. For students in the English Language program, research serves as an opportunity to gain deeper insight into the transformation of language within the contexts of technology, education, and society.
NOVEMBER 14, the Graduate Education Institute of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF) convened the Master’s Thesis Evaluation Committee for English Language students from the 2023 cohort.  The session highlighted the students’ academic growth, reflected in rigorous research thinking, systematic scientific approaches, and meaningful contributions to language education following two years of study and training at UEF.

The assessment committee included distinguished experts in linguistics and English language education, including Associate Professors Duong My Tham, Le Huong Hoa, Pham Huu Duc, and Nguyen Huynh Trang, along with Dr. Pham Huy Cuong, Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhu Diep, Dr. Pham Nguyen Huy Hoang, Dr. Hoang Viet Hien, Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Hanh, Dr. Lam Thanh Nam, Dr. Luu Thi Mai Vy, Dr. Nguyen Thi Quyen, Dr. Ho Van Han, and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Duong.
The range of research topics evaluated during this session highlighted the diversity of the students’ research orientations. Each study offered a unique perspective on the evolving landscape of language education in the modern era. Some projects explored psychological factors and learning motivation among students, while others focused on teaching methodologies and classroom management strategies. Another notable direction involved the application of artificial intelligence in language teaching and skill development. Additionally, several studies addressed key issues in contemporary language education, such as challenges in academic writing, first-year students’ satisfaction with blended learning models, and cultural factors influencing perception in multinational business environments.

A particularly notable highlight of this defense session was that several students had already published academic articles in reputable journals prior to their project defenses. These publications significantly enhanced the scholarly value of their capstone projects while clearly demonstrating the serious research capabilities of UEF’s graduate students. The published studies also reflect a systematic research process and provide important advantages for students who wish to pursue further academic research, participate in scientific projects, or advance their careers in education and training.
Throughout the evaluation sessions, the committee carefully reviewed each project with professionalism, objectivity, and openness. Faculty members commended the students’ thorough preparation while also identifying limitations, discussing challenges, and offering recommendations for further development, helping students gain deeper insights into the standards of high-quality academic research.
The committee engages in academic discussions, providing feedback and guidance for further research development.
UEF congratulates the 2023 cohort of English Language master’s students on their successful capstone project defenses. Today’s achievements represent the culmination of persistent research efforts, countless hours of data analysis, and an unwavering spirit of academic curiosity. From this milestone forward, each graduate carries with them solid knowledge, rigorous research methodologies, and the confidence to continue contributing to the community, the advancement of language education, and the broader development of society.
