UEF Doctoral Seminar Guides PhD Candidates on Writing Literature Review Using Optimized Methods

In order to enhance research capacity and support doctoral candidates in completing their dissertations, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF) organized a regular doctoral seminar on the morning of July 12. The session also featured a specialized workshop on writing the literature review using data from Web of Science and Scopus through the VOSviewer software.

The program was attended by Dr. Ngo Minh Hai, Vice President of the University; Dr. Truong Quang Dung, Director of the Graduate Education Institute; Dr. Mach Tran Huy, Director of Human Resources and Deputy Chief of the University Office; Mr. Huynh Quoc Phong, Deputy Director of the Graduate Education Institute; along with doctoral candidates currently enrolled at UEF.


The doctoral seminar and literature review workshop helped PhD candidates access new research methodologies.

At the beginning of the program, representatives from the Graduate Education Institute provided doctoral candidates with the regulations and schedule for periodic academic seminars throughout their doctoral studies. The session covered academic requirements, institutional regulations, and available academic support services.

Dr. Ngo Minh Hai also shared important guidance regarding scientific publication requirements and the publication process for doctoral candidates.



University representatives shared information and addressed questions from doctoral candidates.

Following the information-sharing session, participants attended a specialized presentation on writing literature reviews using data from Web of Science and Scopus, and the VOSviewer software. The session was presented by Ms. Le Thi Giang, a doctoral candidate in Business Administration.

During her presentation, Ms. Giang provided guidance on extracting and processing  data from Web of Science and Scopus. She also guided participants on using VOSviewer to build scientific knowledge maps, analyze citation networks, and identify key keyword clusters.

The practical demonstration and discussion segment attracted strong interest from  doctoral candidates, who raised numerous questions related to data filtering techniques, thematic mapping processes, and methods for assessing academic impact.



Doctoral candidates exchanged insights and gained additional knowledge to support the progress of their dissertation research.

Through this seminar, doctoral candidates not only gained access to new knowledge and tools for constructing comprehensive literature reviews but also developed a clearer understanding of academic milestones,requirements, and the appropriate direction for their dissertation work within the doctoral training roadmap.




Representatives of the Graduate Education Institute presented letters of appreciation to doctoral candidates who have contributed to the Institute’s development.

In the coming period, UEF will continue to maintain and expand its periodic academic seminars, supporting doctoral candidates in developing independent research thinking, strengthening their international publication capabilities, and successfully completing their doctoral programs.
