UEF Students Explore the Professional Working Environment at Rajah & Tann LCT Lawyers

09/06/2025
With a training orientation closely linked to practical experience, on June 6, the Faculty of Law organized a field trip and hands-on learning program at Rajah & Tann LCT Lawyers – one of the leading law firms in Vietnam and the Asia region. This program was designed for 2nd- and 3rd-year law students to give them the opportunity to observe the operational model of a professional legal firm, thereby enhancing their understanding and practical career orientation.
The program was accompanied by M.A. Vu Anh Sao – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Law, and M.A. Ho My Hanh – Lecturer at the Faculty. From the firm’s side, the students were welcomed by Ms. Vu Thi Que – Chairman of the Members’ Council and Founding Lawyer of Rajah & Tann LCT Lawyers, and Mr. Trinh Minh Duc – Senior Counsel at the firm.
During the visit, the firm’s representatives introduced students to the firm’s regional network and highlighted its prominent legal advisory areas, including corporate law, investment, finance and banking, real estate, intellectual property, dispute resolution, and more. Students also had the opportunity to listen to detailed insights about the firm’s organizational structure, professional ethics, case handling procedures, and the key skills that a successful lawyer needs to practice in international legal environments.
Learning Key Legal Practice Skills
In the practical learning session, UEF students also met and listened to valuable advice from Ms. Vu Thi Que. Based on her professional experience, she shared important knowledge and lessons about core legal consulting skills, especially in the field of legal advisory services. The firm representative emphasized that to become a good lawyer, a practitioner must cultivate strong information-gathering abilities, fully understand a client’s needs and context, and have sharp analytical skills combined with the ability to view problems from multiple legal and practical perspectives. Moreover, effective communication skills are essential to help clients clearly understand their legal options in a way that is accessible and suited to the business context.
Students listened attentively as real-world legal practice experiences were shared by the lawyers. Ms. Que explained that applying the flexible 5W1H model (Who, What, When, Where, Why, How) can help lawyers determine appropriate strategic approaches. According to her, each question in the model helps clarify a situation and is a way to build trust and guide effective, transparent consulting strategies for both parties.
Before concluding the session, Ms. Que offered heartfelt encouragement to future lawyers:
“Be proactive, nurture your passion for the profession, be daring in taking on challenges, and always set specific goals to self-orient your career. Practicing law is not easy, but if you maintain a spirit of learning and perseverance, you will have the courage to grow.”
Value of the Visit
The exchange helped students clearly see the connection between campus knowledge and real-world requirements, as well as better identify the competencies they need to develop in order to adapt to a professional working environment, especially in firms with international elements. For law students, corporate visits like this help them early on to experience professional practice, legal work culture, and ethical standards in the legal profession.
