To equip students with research methodology foundations and quantitative analysis skills which are particularly those participating in the 2025–2026 Scientific Research Competition, on the morning of NOVEMBER 4, the Faculty of Business Administration organized a specialized workshop titled “Data Analysis with SPSS and Ordinal Regression”.
The workshop was led by Mr. Tran Quang Canh, lecturer of the Faculty of Business Administration, with the participation of Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Tien, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration.
The Faculty of Business Administration extended a formal letter of appreciation to the workshop instructors
During the workshop, students were guided through the complete workflow in SPSS, from data preparation, entry, and variable setup to conducting descriptive statistical analyses and handling measurement scales.
The core focus of the session was Ordinal Regression analysis, a widely used technique for modeling dependent variables in ordinal form. This method is particularly suitable for research on satisfaction levels, service evaluations, customer behavior, and similar topics. It also addresses a key need for many student groups in completing the methodology and data analysis sections of their projects.
Mr. Tran Quang Canh guided students to gain a deeper understanding of Ordinal Regression analysis using SPSS
Through the instructor’s guidance, students practiced key steps including creating mean variables, converting dependent variables to ordinal scales, running Ordinal Regression models, assessing model fit, interpreting regression coefficients, and drawing conclusions. Notably, the workshop also introduced advanced techniques such as standardized β coefficients, Gap Index, and Performance Index to evaluate the relative importance and priority of factors within the model, equipping students to produce more in-depth analytical reports and data-driven recommendations.
Students paid close attention and actively practiced each step to master the procedures
The workshop helped students grasp the underlying principles of statistical methods and also strengthened their scientific research thinking, data-handling skills, and ability to present evidence-based arguments. These competencies are essential for conducting research projects, completing graduation theses, and applying analytical skills in future professional contexts.
The workshop is part of a series of training activities organized by the Faculty of Business Administration for participants in the 2025–2026 Scientific Research Competition. The initiative aims to provide students with a solid foundation in research while fostering a practical academic environment at UEF, encouraging proactive learning and the development of strong analytical skills.
