Students gain multicultural management experience from British American Tobacco’s leaderships

Recently, students of the Faculty of Business Management and Marketing at Gloucestershire Vietnam participated in “Cultural Challenges in Leadership and Management in the British American Tobacco” workshop. The event unlocks numerous opportunities for students to approach practical lessons about management and leadership in a multinational environment.

The workshop featured Mr. Vo Hong Son, Dean of the Economics Gloucestershire Vietnam; Mr. Ngo Thanh Phuong Quynh, faculty member of Gloucestershire Vietnam; and special guest, Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan Trang - Head of Vietnam Cluster Operations at British American Tobacco (BAT).

At the workshop, the speaker shared insights on common challenges when working in a multinational environment, including differences about communication cultures, working style, and leadership mindset. Ms. Trang shared that understanding and flexibility play a crucial role in a multicultural workplace in efficiency maintenance and teamwork spirit.
One of the most concerned topics is how multinational enterprises like British American Tobacco apply the Diversity - Equity - Inclusion (DEI) strategy to build an open, creative working environment and create conditions for all employees to develop their own abilities.
In addition to theoretical sharings, the workshop brought various practical cases for students to discuss and find solutions for effective team management in the multicultural context. The keynote speaker emphasized the role of open and respectful communication in minimizing cultural barriers and enhancing cooperation between members of the business.

The event provided practical experience and opportunities for students to have a meeting with enterprises’ leaders, partnership expansion, and skill cultivation in the international workplace. The indicated sharings from the workshop help students gain in-depth insights into corporate culture, apply it to their essays and prepare for a multicultural working environment, opening up many career opportunities after graduation.
