05/18/2023

May 16 - The online studying abroad program “Chinese Culture Experience” was officially launched. On May 18, UEFers students partook in online courses together with international students from China, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, India, Myanmar and other universities in HCMC. The first two lessons on Chinese knotting and martial arts took place under the guidance of lecturers from Guangxi Minzu University - China.

Ms. Dieu Kim Linh and Mr. Tu Lap Tan were in charge of sharing with students in the knotting lesson. Students listened to the history of the formation and development of Chinese knotting art and the meaning of using knots through each phase of history.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan – Deputy Dean, Faculty of Languages and International Cultures – was present at the lesson to monitor and instruct students

In particular, the structural meaning of the word “jié” (结), - the Chinese knot based on the meaning of radicals, embodies the strength and harmony, the intimate and close feelings between people. It also implies a desire for prosperity, peace, fortune and good well-being.

Lecturers introduced various kinds of knots used by the Chinese, instructed and practised specific steps to tie a Chinese standard and perfect knot (the knotting procedure of 1, 2 or more cords)

In the Chinese martial arts lesson, students are instructed on Tai Chi martial arts in detail on basic movements by Mr. Ly Chi Hong.

Tai Chi is a Chinese traditional martial art featured by flexible, slow movements combined with breath regulation.

By taking part in lessons, not only do students experience the Chinese culture but also practise their language capacity when listening and communicating in Chinese constantly with instructors. Especially, they can also practise local Chinese and technical terms.

The next lessons of the programme are the second lesson on Chinese knotting taking place on May 19 and the lesson on Chinese paper cuttings on May 20. Students can register to gain more exciting insights.
