06/30/2023

After exploring and experiencing the distinctive cultural aspects in the Mekong Delta, the student delegation from Ming Chi University of Technology continued their journey to discover the heroic land of Cu Chi on June 29, accompanied by students from UEF International Institute.

This immersive program was filled with hands-on experiences and deeply imbued with the historical essence of the Vietnamese nation during its intense period of resistance. It was also a source of pride for Vietnamese students to introduce this significant part of history to international friends.

The journey was led by Mr. Le The Hien – Faculty member, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, along with staff and UEFers. Representing the Taiwanese partner delegation on this trip was Dr. Kelly Chen Associate Professor and Director, IMBA Program.

The exploration journey began under the guidance and coordination of Mr. The Hien

Visiting the land, students were introduced to a glorious historical period vividly portrayed through black-and-white documentaries. The intense resistance period during the Vietnam War was condensed into a few minutes of footage. Taiwanese students were curious and attentive when observing every detail in these films.

After learning about the history of the site, students started to explore the underground tunnels. They were always eager to experience, undeterred by the prospect of getting dirt on their clothes. This attitude allowed students to have valuable moments during the trip. And of course, UEFers took the lead, acting as pioneers, encouraging bravery and exploration among the Taiwanese students.

Diverse experiences in this heroic land

The students learned about the air vents for tunnels, visited various spike types, experienced going up and down through the "Secret Trapdoor," and ventured through a 10-meter tunnel. Additionally, the delegation strolled around bunkers, medical chambers, kitchens, etc. all designed in the style of hidden tunnels.

Capturing the collective moments at each stopping point

When visiting Cu Chi Tunnels, one cannot miss the steamed cassava, a "specialty" of this site. By lunchtime, the students began to feel a bit tired. They sampled the local cuisine at Ben Duoc Restaurant, conveniently located within the historical site. It was an exciting journey filled with many first-time experiences for Taiwanese students.

On the way back, the delegation also visited the Rice Paper Village. Here, the students had the opportunity to savor a variety of dishes made from rice paper. They were quite excited and found the Vietnamese rice paper salad particularly delicious. Their fondness for the dish was evident as they enthusiastically bought plenty of it, both as gifts and to savor the unique culinary culture of the area.
