Taiwanese students explore Vietnamese culture and language at UEF

06/27/2023

UNE 27 - Students from Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) in Taiwan participated in a cultural exchange activity after the "International Summer Camp in Viet Nam 2023" program. With support from faculty members and UEFers, they engaged in various activities while learning about Vietnamese culture.

The MCUT students were accompanied by Ms. Kelly Chen – Associate Professor and Director of IMBA Program (MCUT).

During the event, students had the opportunity to broaden their horizons with the sharings from Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tam Nguyen – Lecturer, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Students focused on the sharings about Vietnamese culture and relevant guides

MCUT delegates were exposed to Vietnamese culture through various aspects like traditional costumes (non la, ao dai), delicious cuisine (banh mi, pho), cultural festivals (the traditional Tet holiday, Hung King’s death anniversary), etc.

Furthermore, there was an opportunity to learn fundamental Vietnamese aspects, including the alphabet, tone marks, and basic self-introduction sentences.

Handmade non la were the meaningful souvenirs at the end of the event

During the joint activity, MCUT students and UEFers learned how to draw on non la, which were also presented as gifts for students returning to Taiwan. Then, in the Vietnamese speaking part, UEFers assisted them in learning basic Vietnamese pronunciation and self-introduction sentences. MCUT students were thrilled to express themselves in Vietnamese though their pronunciation was not yet clear.

On the same day, MCUT students engaged in cultural activities by visiting some of the most iconic sites in HCMC to learn about Vietnamese history and culture. They went to HCMC Central Post Office, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Independence Palace, Nguyen Hue walking street, etc. The visit was a wonderful chance to create lasting memories.

During their second day at UEF, MCUT students immersed themselves in Vietnamese culture and adapted to their new surroundings. This experience not only broadened their knowledge but also strengthened the bond between the students from both universities.

Many interesting expreriences on the second day of the program

MCUT students were set to explore Vietnamese traditional culture during their visit to the Mekong Delta on June 28. We hope that the UEFers “guides” would provide them with an insightful and engaging experience.
