UEF at International Conference on English Language Teaching 2022

SEPTEMBER 30 - The development of technology along with changes caused by the  post-COVID-19 fuels the increasing need to implement technology in English language teaching to adapt to blended learning. Therefore, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-USSH) hosted the International Conference on English Language Teaching 2022 entitled “Digital trends in ELT”. 

From UEF, the conference had Dr. Do Huu Nguyen Loc – Vice President & Director, UEF International Institute, Chairman, TESOL HCMC Association, and the Golden Sponsor of the conference. Dr. Pham Huy Cuong – Dean, Faculty of English, Dr. Phan Bao Giang – Executive Deputy Dean, Faculty of Marketing, Dr. Duong My Tham – Deputy Dean, Faculty of English, lecturers and students were also present.
Vice President & Director, UEF International Institute, representing UEF, participated in the conference as Chairman, TESOL HCMC Association

At the morning plenary session, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Philip Chappell – Deputy Head, Department of Linguistics, Macquarie University (Australia) presented the topic “Dialing up Dialogic”; At the afternoon session, Prof. Sandra Kies – Director of MA Linguistics (TESOL and Literary Concentrations), Benedictine University (USA) presented the topic “Corpus-based pedagogy and EFL: Trends and prospects".

The conference also had a discussion session with 4 panelists on the topic “Digital instructional materials for blended learning”, namely Dr. Tran Thi Minh Phuong – Chair, Department of English Language Teaching, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Nigel Killick – CEO & Founder, ReallyEnglish, Dr. Pham Quoc Loc – Vice President, Thai Binh Duong University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – Director, Institute of Training and Applied Research, Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology. 
The conference brought a practical perspective on the application of technology in English language teaching

The conference consisted of 6 research groups, with each having speakers to perform their presentations, views and experiences on online learning and the application of technology in English language teaching. Dr. Pham Huy Cuong – Dean, Faculty of English, Mr. David Maher and Mr. Daniel Naville – Lecturers, UEF International Institute, on UEF’s behalf, presented at the conference.

The International Conference on English Language Teaching (ICELT) has been held biennially since 2012. Through the conference, scholars, experts, lecturers and students exchanged professional knowledge, shared their experiences, perspectives and research results, academic issues related to English language teaching in particular and English language in general. ICELT is also a great opportunity for attendees to update modern English language teaching trends and future development orientations.
