10/26/2026

OCTOBER 24, the Faculty of English coordinated with the System of A Chau English Centers to organize the qualifying round of the vocabulary contest “The Word Quest”, providing an academic playground for UEF students to test their lexical resources, language reflexes, and resilience when facing English challenges.

“The Word Quest” was an opportunity for UEFers to challenge their lexical resources and practice their communicative English

Attending the contest were Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of English, lecturers of the faculty, and nearly 100 students. With a combination of online multiple-choice questions and an in-person interview, the qualifying round allowed contestants to test their knowledge, apply English in specific situations, and demonstrate problem-solving skills under time pressure.

In the opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Luan shared the aim of “The Word Quest” and the role of vocabulary in learning foreign languages. Lexical resources are the foundation for reading comprehension, idea presentation, knowledge acquisition, and effective communication. If accumulated systematically and utilized appropriately, vocabulary will help learners improve their English skills in learning and daily life.

Before the main part of the test, the Organizing Committee introduced some methods of learning vocabulary with illustrative examples and presented the format of the qualifying round. The sharing not only provided tips for memorizing, recalling, and utilizing vocabulary but also helped students understand the rules of the contest.

In the first section, the contestants completed the online multiple-choice test with questions ranging from basic to advanced levels. The test format allowed the Organizing Committee to evaluate contestants’ lexical resources and challenged participants to read quickly, make the right decisions, and apply their acquired knowledge in practice.

Contestants with high scores entered the in-person interview section with the Organizing Committee. In this part, their language competence was assessed individually based on how they reacted and responded to the questions, giving the judges more comprehensive evidence to evaluate their ability.

After synthesizing the results, the Organizing Committee discussed carefully to shortlist the Top 8 for the Final round. Besides lexical resources, the marking criteria also included flexibility in the interview section to find out the well-prepared students for the next round.

Throughout the two sections, “The Word Quest” required students to possess knowledge and apply it confidently and proactively when facing new questions, which are practical requirements of learning foreign languages.

After the qualifying round, the Top 8 will participate in the training session with lecturers and will be grouped into teams to prepare for the final challenge. The next phase is expected to offer new experiences as contestants have an opportunity to reinforce their knowledge, collaborate with their teammates, and prepare for the deciding round.

The Top 8 were revealed and will be divided into 4 teams in the upcoming training session

The contest was organized with an aim of providing students an opportunity to showcase their English proficiency, enhance teamwork skills, and gain exposure to a large-scale language playground. Building on that basis, the journey at the contest may become a launching pad for students to challenge themselves, gain experience, and nurture love for learning foreign languages.

The final round of “The Word Quest” will take place on October 29, bringing together the Top 8 excellent contestants. The upcoming race promises exciting competition in which vocabulary, reflexes, and the spirit of teamwork will be challenged.
