At UEF, alongside essential knowledge in vocabulary, grammar, writing styles, and translation for mastering all four listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, students of Japanese Language are also thoroughly equipped with insights into Japan’s economy, politics, society, culture, and people. In addition, students gain complementary knowledge in fields such as banking, import & export, or international relations, encouraging them to confidently pursue careers across diverse sectors of the economy.

The Japanese Language program offers three specializations: Japanese Translation & Interpretation, Japanese Tourism & Culture, and Japanese for Economics & Business. In addition to essential competencies such as communication, negotiation, management, and teamwork, students are also trained in Japanese principles of communication, behavior, and professional work ethics, equipping them to integrate easily into the international business environment.
 

Classes encourage student interaction to enhance Japanese communication skills

Some of the distinctive courses included: Japanese Pragmatics, History of Japan, Japanese Education System, Introduction to the Japanese Economy, Japanese Literature, Intercultural Communication, Japanese for Business Administration, Japanese for Banking and Finance, Japanese for Medicine, and Japanese for Information Technology, among others.

In Japanese Language, students learn directly from experienced native Japanese lecturers who not only deliver the knowledge of language but also Japan’s unique work style, discipline mindset, and creative spirit. The Center of Vietnam-Japan Human Resources Development (VJDC) at UEF plays a key role as a bridge, strengthening partnerships with Japanese businesses, expanding networks with new partners in Japan, and developing collaborative programs with Japanese universities and institutions. 
Through workshops, talk shows, seminars, and research activities, students have participated in many exciting events such as the “Flavors of Japanese Autumn”, “Fukuwarai - The Lucky Face-Matching Game”, and “Omamori - Magic from the Land of the Rising Sun.” Beyond cultural exploration, Japanese Language students have also gained real-world learning opportunities at leading companies such as Esuhai Group, Ajinomoto, Yakult,...

To promote Japanese culture and provide a space to practice the language, the Hikari Club serves as an academic hub where UEF’s Japanese Language students and all those passionate about Japanese culture can come together to learn and grow.
Students of UEF’s Japanese Language have also left an impression in a variety of academic and cultural competitions, such as the “Japanese for the Community” program, the “I am a Japanese Teacher” contest, the Japanese Speech Contest, and the “Colors of Japanese Culture” competition. 
 
These activities are more than just playgrounds for creativity. They are valuable opportunities for students to sharpen their critical thinking skills, practice persuasive presentation skills, and build confidence on stage. All of these are essential qualities for success in today’s international environment. 
 
Japanese Language Students: Success At Every Turn
On their journey to conquer the Japanese language and culture, UEF students go far beyond classroom learning. They consistently demonstrate their talent and determination in national-level academic competitions. From attending prestigious Japanese speech contests and winning championship titles, UEF’s Japanese Language students have been writing an inspiring success story for future generations to follow. 
 
Some of the outstanding achievements include: Third Prize at the 8th National Japanese Speech Contest – JLAN-TEST Cup, Champion of the 6th Southern Universities Japanese Speech Contest (2023), Third Prize at the 7th Southern Universities Japanese Speech Contest, Consolation Prize at the 7th National Japanese Speech Contest – JLAN-TEST Cup (2024), and Second Place in the “I Am a Japanese Teacher” Contest (2023), among others.

For many  years, UEF Japanese Language students have ranked among the top three in the Southern and national-level “Japanese Speech Contest.”

These achievements clearly show that UEF’s learning environment not only equips students with specialized knowledge but also creates opportunities for them to challenge themselves, gain real-world experience, and shine on both national and international stages. 

Welcoming Japanese Language Students and Reaching Global Careers

UEF partners with numerous Japanese businesses as well as Vietnamese companies with Japanese investment. From their third year, students are already offered internship opportunities with partner companies, with many securing full-time contracts even before graduation. Career workshops, mock interviews—real recruitment sessions, and the support of the VJDC all help students smoothly transition from the classroom to a career. 

With a broad international network, UEF provides students with opportunities such as: Exchange semesters at Japanese universities; International internship in Japan, which not only improves Japanese proficiency but also develops essential skills and working in multicultural environments; Student exchanges with Japanese students at UEF, where students can practice Japanese through real-life interaction and gain cultural understanding on campus. Many students, after completing these programs, go on to work in Japan or become key members of Japanese-invested companies in Vietnam.
