“Logistics and career opportunities in Vietnam” Workshop

On April 3rd, “Logistics and career opportunities in Vietnam” workshop held by the Faculty of Economics provides a clearer picture about developing trends, training program, human resource needs of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, which is regarded as a major with the highest developing potential in today’s economic integration context.
The workshop is pleased to have the presence of Mr. Truong Tan Loc - Marketing Director ofSaigon Newport Corporation; Mr. Le Minh Triet - the Deputy Director of LMT Import-Export Wood Company Limited; Mr. Do Huu Anh - the Head of Training department, Song Binh Trading and Services Company Limited as well as UEF lecturers.

According to Dr. Nhan Cam Tri - the Vice President of UEF, Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a newly-updated major in our university since 2019. As this major requires a high demand of human resources concerning the current labour market, more job opportunities will be created for students.

Based on the news of the stuck Ever Given ship in Suez Canal, the speakers began analyzing about Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The stranded ship was holding up an estimated $9.6 bn of trade along the waterway each day. Its analysis showed the blockage could cost global trade between $6bn to $10bn a week and reduce annual trade growth by 0.2% to 0.4%
From the Suez Canal blockage, the speakers emphasized on the pros and cons of Logistics and Supply Chain Management; in specific, the factors directly affect the development of this major such as weak facilities, lack of human resources and the dependence on the State’s laws.

Moreover, how the Covid-19 pandemic influences Logistics and Supply Chain Management is also discussed. Particularly, import-export problems, delayed transport, business difficulties, and the appearance of "empty containers" are the difficulties of this industry during the pandemic.
The speakers also talked about the story of Vietnam producing containers, which poses a number of issues such as the need to compete with prices, quality, number of customers and so forth.
