UEF x SCCL Singapore: International opportunities for Chinese Language UEFers

At the beginning of April, UEF was determined to expand international learning opportunities for Chinese Language students and promote student mobility programs, so a meeting with the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL Singapore) – Singapore Ministry of Education was held.

 

The meeting opened up new learning opportunities for Chinese Language students  

On UEF’s behalf, there were Dr. Do Huu Nguyen Loc – Vice President & Director, UEF International Institute; Ms. Huynh Tu Anh – Deputy Director, UEF International Institute; representatives from the Faculty of Languages and International Cultures; staff and faculty members of UEF International Institute.

On SCCL Singapore’s behalf, there were Dr. Foo Suan Fong – Executive Director, Dr. Lin Jinzhan – Head of Research/Senior Research Associate, Mr. Anthony Ang – Business Development Executive, Ms. Rebecca Yang –Business Development Executive and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Chinh – SCCL Vietnam Representative.

During the meeting, Dr. Do Huu Nguyen Loc and Dr. Lin Jinzhan had a quick introduction of their institutions. Through the talk, mutual understanding was promoted and the two institutions were able to deduce logical ways of going about their cooperation in terms of organizing courses and short-term mobility programs, theme-based Chinese courses, co-teaching classes, international conferences as well as other cooperation opportunities. 

 

Representatives of the two institutions shared some general information

Having accredited highly qualified lecturers and comprehensive Chinese curricula, SCCL is committed to advocating cross-cultural apprehension between Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries, especially Vietnam. Similarly, SCCL aspires to cooperate with institutions in Chinese Language teaching to not only exchange about Chinese culture but also promote the study of teaching Chinese between the Singapore and Vietnam Ministry of Education.

The meeting is a stepping stone for future cooperations, international programs and precious opportunities for UEFers, especially those majoring in Chinese Language. 

 
SCCL was officially opened by Singapore Founding Prime Minister – Mr. Lee Kuan Yew on November 17 2009. Thanks to Singaporean Ministry of Education’s wholehearted support, SCCL has been the leading institution in training and researching in-service Chinese Language teachers to promote their teaching literacy, competency and professionalism since its inception. The objective of SCCL is to enhance the effectiveness of teaching Chinese as a second language in a bilingual environment. SCCL desires to enhance the teaching literacy, competency and professionalism of Chinese Language teachers by providing quality training as this contributes to the advertisement of Chinese culture and language in Singapore.
