Workshop “Sri’s Introduction To Innovation”: UEF x K.I.T students launch numerous innovative projects

03/10/2023

MARCH 8 TO 10 - UEF Center of Project Design Education in collaboration with Kanazawa Institute of Technology (K.I.T - Japan) organized an international workshop themed “Sri’s Introduction To Innovation” with an aim of broadening opportunities for students to study, research, and experience a professional international environment. The workshop was held in English with the participation of faculty members and students from two educational institutions.

The workshop provided students with concepts and up-to-date knowledge of Innovation course conducted by Stanford Research Institute International (SRI International). The workshop adopted Project Based Learning, allowing students to learn by engaging in meaningful projects under the instruction of faculty members from UEF and K.I.T.
8 students from each party took part in the workshop. During the workshop, students had a chance to constantly practice and boost their innovative thinking skills, as well as develop essential projects, products to fulfill social needs in various fields, and industries.
After students presented their ideas, the faculty members selected the 4 most popular topics. These 4 topics were developed by groups of students based on the theories of SRI International. The Research Institute was established in 1946, once affiliated with Stanford University (USA) with the name Stanford Research Institute (SRI) before operating independently as SRI International from 1977 to present.

Students presented creative ideas to faculty members of UEF x K.I.T

During the workshop, selected topics for implementation include: Digital ID App, Malbu: Mental Health Counselling, Translating Glasses for Deaf people, and Airbag Jacket. The projects are evaluated as extremely unique and highly creative.
The "Translating Glasses for Deaf people" project employs technology recording the other person's voice and displaying the translation on the glasses for the hearing impaired to read. The "Malbu: Mental Health Counseling" project applies artificial intelligence (AI) to interact with patients in the manner of a friend or family member, record feelings, and assess emotional quotient via a multiple-choice test, providing prompt advice and accurate diagnoses. In addition, the "Airbag Jacket" project offers a device that uses a smart chip to release the airbag before the user falls, preventing injuries from severe crashes. The item is appropriate for older people and youngsters who frequently lose their balance while moving; it is also portable, waterproof, has a one-handed zipper, and most importantly, uses a mechanism that prevents drowning. The majority of the initiatives are in the area of health protection technology. Through the project, students clearly exhibited the spirit of cross-cultural academic collaboration between K.I.T. and UEF. Despite coming from two distinct cultures, students of UEF and K.I.T both share the spirit of innovation. The cutting-edge initiatives are testaments to the value of products that improve quality of life and are appropriate for Vietnam and Japan in the context of the new era.

Students worked on a project

Through the workshop, students were equipped with knowledge of Innovation course, enhanced their English communication and presentation abilities, collaborated on creative projects with Japanese students, and learned how to solve problems rapidly. Moreover, the workshop session was led by faculty members and experts who were eager to answer inquiries, share their perspectives, and engage in lively debates. Thanks to the workshop, UEFers acquired valuable experiences.

Students received completion certificates after participating in the workshop

The program left innumerable precious memories on UEFers. "The workshop allowed me to cooperate in developing creative projects with my mate Karin from K.I.T. and the experts of SRI who always gave positive encouragement to students. I am most impressed with the K.I.T students' self-discipline, and punctuality. It's worth the expense to learn." said student Nguyen Phuong Luan.
Student Huynh Thanh Phu Qui expressed, "The immensely valuable workshop on sustainable development offered me a better overview of life, and aided me in gaining a deep insight into the fundamental needs of modern people, as well as ways to satisfy such demands. Additionally, learning about the processes and tactics used in business and startup helps me understand how to approach the market and potential clients successfully. Furthermore, my presentation skills have been greatly upgraded.”
The workshop "Sri's Introduction To Innovation", which concluded successfully, left favorable impressions, memorable moments, and lessons for UEFers. This will be a useful platform in assisting students to approach and address issues in the current sustainable development goals.
