English - a tool for young people to confidently conquer the integration environment

08/11/2022
This year’s admission season has seen a lot of disappointment happening to applicants who achieve high scores in the high school graduation exam but fail to graduate because their English test is below the standard score set.

Learning English is a compulsory requirement among students

Many students fail to graduate due to a lack of English

After the results of the high school graduation exam were announced, many issues are discussed by the community. While several students carefully consider their university choices, others are surprised by the information that they may not be eligible for high school graduation despite achieving a high total score.

According to the regulations of the high school graduation exam 2022, the failed score in the consideration of high school graduation is 1.0 at least or less, applied for all tests and component exams of each combined exam.

According to statistics from the high school exam results 2022, a Bac Kan applicant had a total score of 40.95 in all subjects but would not be considered for high school graduation because the English test score was 1.0.

Another applicant had a total of 25.85 points for the combination of Math - Physics - Chemistry, which is a relatively high score. However, this applicant only got 1.0 point for the English test, leading to his failure in high school graduation.

Similarly, another applicant who got 27.3 points, a desirable score, still fell to graduate from high school because of a 0-point English test.

All three cases above are affected by the score of the English test. In today’s society, English is no longer a need but has become a mandatory requirement for young people. Besides the high school graduation exam, having good English ability will be a great advantage in a higher education setting that students need to improve.

Bilingual learning environment helps Gen Z perfect English

Currently, most universities are promoting international programs. Therefore, graduates not only master professional knowledge but also have the ability to use foreign languages well, benefiting their future jobs.

Extracurricular foreign language activities help students improve their language ability

UEF is an example of a university that offers students the bilingual program, in which English lectures account for 50% of their studying duration. Besides homegrown faculty with extensive years of experience, there are seasoned foreign lecturers.

With small class sizes, students have many opportunities to exchange, discuss and critique directly with lecturers during class time. Through international exchange activities, students will promote their professional and English skills and many necessary skills for their study and career.

UEFers often have international exchanges

If students are equipped with foreign languages before studying in this environment, it will be easier for them to acquire knowledge, confidently express their personal identity, and seize opportunities to study in UEF’s university partners.

Furthermore, with high English scores, applicants applying to UEF will receive a 50% scholarship and do not have to take General English courses.

Free English class for freshmen

With a focus on learning English among students before they officially enroll in the study program, UEF has impressed students with its free English class.

This program helps applicants have a methodical approach to learn English and familiarize themselves with the learning environment, lecturers, and friends to remove the feeling of being a fish out of water when entering the official learning process at the university.

In addition to English courses, UEF organizes other foreign language courses such as Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.

Free English class at UEF

“Joining the class, I have been able to hone my prior knowledge and pronounce better. On the first day, I learned about American-English stress and pronunciation. I really love this lesson. The lecturer teaches very clearly and this helps me understand and absorb the knowledge easily. In addition to improving my English, I also want to experience the environment at a university before officially enrolling in,” Nguyen Tra My shared her feelings after participating in the first lesson.

Young learners focus on learning English in order to catch up with the times and open new opportunities for themselves. Choosing a higher education environment to study becomes a critical factor needed to consider.
