Latin American Cinema Week 2023: More entertainment and cultural learning space for UEFers

UEF continuously organizes various events, and exchange activities to learn, explore, and experience the cultures of many countries around the world as a medium for promoting the  integration and active learning spirit among students. Through a diverse series of events, UEFers can expand their knowledge and connect with many more international friends.

NOVEMBER 28 - the Faculty of International Relations, in coordination with the UEF Spanish and Latin American Institute launched the Latin American Cinema Week 2023. While enjoying three award-winning movies at Film Festivals, UEFers would have the opportunity to learn about Cuban and Panamanian culture through "the seventh art".



The “cinema” is located in Liberty Hall 

This series of events is organized to respond to the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2023), and promote diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Panama. For 3 consecutive days (November 28 - November 30), the featured movies include PANAME, el Fantasma del Gran Francés; El Benny; Historias Del Canal.

Participating in the opening ceremony of Latin American Cinema Week 2023 was Ms. Nubiela Ayala Modes - Deputy Consul, Panama Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.  On behalf of the Cuban Consulate, there were: Ms. Neolvis Zamora Fernández - Commercial Director, Ausa Company Representative Office; Mr. Alejandro Rovira Lopetegui - Specialist; Mr. Adolfo Ávila Olive - Specialist.

The event was also welcomed: Dr. Nhan Cam Tri - Vice President; Dr. Tran Thanh Huyen - Dean, Faculty of International Relations; Mr. Nguyen Quoc Viet - Director, UEF Spanish and Latin American Institute; Ms. Le Phuong Cat Nhi - Assistant Dean, Faculty of International Relations.


The event was attended by representatives of the Consulates, UEF’s Board of Presidents, and leaders of Faculties and Institutes

Commencing the program/event, Dr. Nhan Cam Tri delivered a welcome speech to international guests and all students participating in the event. Representatives of the Panama Consulate - Ms. Nubiela Ayala Modes and Cuba Consulate - Mr. Alejandro Rovira Lopetegui also expressed their gratitude through meaningful words. As this activity is one of the important factors promoting the cooperative relationship between Viet Nam - Panama and Viet Nam - Cuba, Ms. Nubiela Ayala Modes wants to introduce more about her country, culture, and people to young people.

In the opening program, the Latin American movie review contest was also launched. After watching the 3 featured movies in this event, contestants will choose a movie to make their own reviews in video format, lasting no more than 5 minutes. Students can compete individually or in groups of no more than 2 members. The contest organizers will officially accept entries from November 29 to December 6, followed by the voting period for review works lasting from December 7 to December 14.

Each film will be selected for an excellent review award with prizes including a certificate of merit and a gift of cash worth 1 million VND. In addition, there will be two more impressive review work awards voted by representatives of the Consulates of Cuba and Panama.

The second film screening was full of excitement. UEFers were transported back to the 1940s and 1960s in Cuba with the film El Benny, co-written and directed by Jorge Luis Sánchez.

At this special “cinema”, UEFers also had chance to participate in interesting minigames

 

UEFers should follow the Latin American movies that premiere week to learn more about the culture and people of Cuba and Panama! For UEF "Reviewers", this is an opportunity for you to shine, boldly compete, show off your skills and conquer valuable prizes of the competition.
