After winning the highest position in the 2023 Japanese Speech Contest for Southern Universities (season 6), Nguyen Thanh Dat - a fourth-year student majoring in Japanese Language at UEF - had a study, experience, and cultural exchange trip at Hiroshima University, Japan. The trip is one of the meaningful awards for this year's eloquent talents. This journey also helped Thanh Dat learn many valuable lessons.
Well-deserved reward for Champion of the 2023 Japanese Speech Contest
From July 22 to August 5, Thanh Dat and the other award-winning contestants visited numerous locations, learning a wealth of intriguing and practical information. In the two weeks, many events took place, including exploring culture, art, and gastronomy; excursions to well-known locations; meeting academics from Hiroshima University; and many other activities.
To precise the specific itinerary, Thanh Dat received the timetable for his 14 days right after arriving in Japan. At Hiroshima University, he took part in lectures taught by Japanese professors, which covered everything from architecture, history, and painting to flower arranging culture, traditional games, anime, and young music. “It was a great time,” he added. “Thanks to that, I was able to experience how interesting the school life of Japanese students is."
Additionally, Thanh Dat also engaged in extracurricular activities at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, Hiroshima Museum, Matsue City, Miyajima Island, etc.
The delegation visited numerous destinations and gained a lot of fresh experiences
Thanh Dat shared that he had an enjoyable experience for the past two weeks, adding, "I ran into a lot of challenges when I got to Japan due to my lack of preparation. Thankfully, Hiroshima University's instructors gave me a lot of assistance. But most of the time, I've just been able to experience Japanese life, eat delicious dishes, and see gorgeous landscapes, so the two-week blink of time has been meaningful to me.”
In addition to priceless experiences with several new friends, Thanh Dat drew a lot of valuable lessons from the trip and enriched his knowledge before graduating from school. He also emphasized: “I picked up a lot of useful information after the trip to Japan. Regardless of the circumstance or their emotions, Japanese people will respond and communicate with customers in a well-mannered way to show their professionalism at work. Moreover, they are highly conscious of hygiene, so I learned from them how to separate waste and dump it on the proper day and location.”
Thanh Dat has gained considerable experience after a two-week study in Japan
Once again, UEF congratulates Thanh Dat for becoming the pride of the Faculty of Languages and International Cultures and UEF in general. His attempts and efforts have opened a new horizon for himself to cultivate and build up his fund of knowledge. UEFers can see Dat as a model of a talented teenager who strives to learn without focusing heavily on achievements. Therefore, students must value the experience and lessons learned from the journeys.
