MAY 20 - Continuing the courses in the online study abroad program "Experience Chinese culture", UEFers learned and practiced the art of paper cutting under the guidance of Guangxi Minzu University lecturers.
UEFers were instructed online by Ms. Thoi Ai Ha from Guangxi Minzu University and supported by Ms. Nguyen Mai Trinh – a Lecturer of UEF Faculty of Languages and International Cultures.
Students are equipped with tools to learn paper cutting
Ms. Ai Ha introduced the meaning of the word 结 (knot), which means solidarity, gathering strength, and connection. This is a word that appears a lot in the Chinese art of paper cutting in terms of symbolism.
At the same time, she presented information related to the history of paper-cutting culture and paper-cutting patterns including animals, trees, and Chinese characters. Afterwards, students practiced paper cutting panda, peony, Chinese characters - 雙倍
UEFers’ excitement when having new experiencing
Students’ enthusiasm and concentration on making detailed cut patterns in every step, from folding paper and drawing patterns to cutting paper proves their interest in this cultural activity.
The activity fosters students’ insights into a new aspect of Chinese culture whilst facilitating their Chinese listening skills in a practical way.
In the upcoming lessons, students are going to be acquainted themselves with Chinese folk dance, tea culture, ink wash painting and recitation. This sequence of activities highlighting Chinese culture promises students fascinating experiences.
