UEFers gain insightful experiences of international start-ups in Busan, Korean

OCTOBER 30 - a delegation of UEFers arrived in Busan, Korea to partake in the 9th International Student Start-up Conference. This trip has provided them with invaluable lessons and insightful international experiences.

Possessing the spirit of enthusiasm, active learning, and creativity in the start-up trends of the youth, the batch of UEFers was elated on this overseas journey. This is a significant event aimed at celebrating innovative ideas and connecting young entrepreneurs from around the globe. The conference featured a variety of engaging and beneficial activities.

The delegation checked in Busan, Korea 

The group of UEFers comprising 10 members was accompanied by Dr. Phan Bao Giang - Dean, Faculty of Marketing, and Ms. Ha Le Thu Hoai - Deputy Director, Center of Project Design Education. The entire delegation boarded their flight and completed the immigration procedures on October 30th. Upon their arrival in South Korea, Tongmyong University was the first institution to warmly welcome the delegation.

The 9th International Student Start-up Conference in 2023 has attracted a diverse group of participants worldwide, including those from China, the United States, Germany, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, and Vietnam. Students from various countries were organized into teams in charge of brainstorming ideas and solutions proposing for social, economic, environmental, and other issues. These teams worked continuously within 12 hours to yield the most creative and feasible "products".





UEFers actively worked in teams with international friends to find the best ideas

The teams took turns to present their initiatives in front of the judging panel. UEFers demonstrated such exceptional skills, knowledge, and language proficiency, resulting in a remarkable haul of awards at this year's conference. Meanwhile, the most prestigious "Global Innovative Technology Award" was presented to The Ohm-Mazing Crew, a team featuring Nguyen Gia Hung from the Faculty of Marketing, for their groundbreaking concept named TravelVolt - a portable battery designed for electric cars.

Furthermore, UEFers along with their fellow teammates secured several coveted prizes, namely the "Global Leader Award" for their solar air conditioner to combat climate change and mitigate carbon emissions (the "For now" team includes Vu Quoc Khanh - a student from the Faculty of Marketing), the "Entrepreneurship Award" for an innovated straw designed for filtering seawater and contaminated water (the "Utopie" team includes Nguyen Phuong Luan - a student from the Faculty of Economics and Huynh Thanh Phu Quy - a student from the UEF International Institute), the Innovative Business Model Award, Young Entrepreneur Award, and Innovative Idea Award.

The judging panel highly appreciated the initiatives, knowledge, and professional competences of the students and offered words of encouragement for their unceasing spirit of learning and innovative creativity. This platform not only allowed UEFers to showcase their creative and entrepreneurial capabilities but also provided an opportunity for them to engage with and learn from international lecturers and students.

Sharing about this journey, Nguyen Phuong Luan - a student from the Faculty of Economics expressed: "It is a great honor for me to participate in an international conference like this. I not only had the chance to elevate my profile but also expand my network and collaborate with international friends and businesses. I sincerely appreciate the organizers for recognizing the value of the startup spirit and encouraging youngsters to pursue their dreams."

The International Student Start-up Conference in Busan is also a platform for faculty members - representatives of various institutions, to share their experiences and entrepreneurial models. Ms. Ha Le Thu Hoai introduced an overview of UEF's Project Design (PD) courses, stressing that they provide a foundation for students to develop their entrepreneurial initiative and skills. Subsequently, Dr. Phan Bao Giang discussed the start-up activities for UEFers. This program is such a valuable opportunity for UEF to further advance its internationalization and collaboration with partner institutions.
