UEFers invested in English to enhance communication in Tourism and Hospitality Management field

On April 22, with the aim of helping students practice their communication English skills, improve their pronunciation as well as use specialized terms, the Faculty of Tourism and Travel Service Management, International Institute have associated with units including IMAP Vietnam Education and Training Joint Stock Company, ELC English Center launched the program "English for enhanced communication in Tourism and Hospitality Management field".

Attending the event, the UEF side was Mr. Do Quoc Anh - Vice Chairman of University Board, Dr. Do Huu Nguyen Loc - Vice President & Director of International Institute, Ms. Nguyen Vuong Hoai Thao - Deputy Dean of Faculty of Tourism and Travel Service Management, Ms. Huynh Tu Anh - Deputy Director of International Institute, Mr. Le Nguyen Thanh Dong - Director of Enterprise Relationship Center and the representatives of the restaurants, hotels, and tourism partners.

Opening the program, the representative of UEF, Mr. Do Quoc Anh - Vice Chairman of the University Board said: “UEF is a university striving to follow international standards, so all activities comply with that criterion. In order to internationalize education, English is the most important “specialty”. Since the second year, more than 50% of the curriculum is in English, especially in developing industries such as tourism, information technology, banking, etc. Therefore, the University Board was welcomed to the program of the Faculty of Tourism and Travel Service Management and International Institute”.

On the side of the Faculty of Tourism and Travel Service Management, Ms. Nguyen Vuong Hoai Thao - Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Travel Service Management shared: “English is always an area that the university is always interested in when training students. This is also a fairly new program when the faculty coordinates with the English Center, hoping that representatives from hotels, restaurants, travel companies will have their comments on the program”.

 
Enterprises had valuable shares about the importance of English in the service sector

Before starting the main part, the Organizing Committee presented a short clip on "English communication in the service industry" to help teachers and students understand and visualize the importance of foreign languages ​​as a whole and English in particular in the services sector related to Restaurants - Hotels - Tourism. At the same time, representatives of enterprises had practical sharing.

Accordingly, Mr. Tran Quang Thuc - Director of Human Resources at Mia Hotel said: “Currently, English is very necessary for the tourism and hospitality industry, but the quality has not yet met. All interviewing parts need English, if you do not have background knowledge or preparation in advance, you will not be able to pass the interview. For this industry, the working environment has a lot of foreigners, in order to communicate smoothly, you also need English skills, and these skills are even more necessary when you want to advance at work".

Mr. Pham Quy Huy - Director of Kiwi Travel Company also emphasized the necessity of English in the travel sector in particular. He said that in the field of travel, you had to work with managers, directors are mostly foreigners, so English is an essential requirement.
 
Students asked questions for business representatives

Meanwhile, the representative of Vy vy Travel company said: “Foreign language is a profitable investment if you want to work in the tourism and hotel industry. English is not only a means to communicate with foreign tourists, but also a tool to promote Vietnam's image to foreign countries. Therefore, the improvement of specialized English is quite useful for students to access the language according to the current global integration trend ".

Mr. Matthew Ky - F&B Manager Mai House also shared real stories about the use of English in the hospitality and tourism industry. Thereby students were able to know more clearly about the benefits and necessity of specialized English.

 
The program has helped students gain more knowledge, experience the value of English at work

Mr. Nguyen Hang Quy - Business Development Director of Imperial Group concluded: “You are the future owners of the tourism and hotel industry, so you should not let English become a barrier. From 2022, you will be able to work in ASEAN countries, so you should try to improve your English now to seize the opportunities for future growth".

In addition to the sharing of enterprises, representatives of IMAP Vietnam Education and Training Joint Stock Company, ELC English Center also introduced the history of formation and development and English training roadmap for students to refer and choose the suitable curriculum.
Students participating in the program also asked businesses directly. From there, students will gain more knowledge, experience, and know more about the value of English in service sector work.

After launching the program, the Organizing Committee will deploy for 8 groups (6 members/group) to participate in specialized communication sessions at IELTS Fighter Center, ELC, and at the school under the guidance of teachers. The expected time is from May 10, 2021, to June 5, 2021. The review meeting to evaluate the results of training, studying, and awarding certificates to the participating members is scheduled to take place on June 15, 2021.
