However, many universities are now actively implementing learning conditions to welcome international students. Various programs and courses were offered to help Vietnamese students interact, improve their language skills, learn about different cultures, and experience new lessons.
Among the few universities that have deployed such programs, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF) is a dynamic, reputable international learning environment that has gained prestige among students from universities around the world, such as the University of Pittsburgh (USA), the University of Gloucestershire (UK), the CY Cergy Paris University (France), and others.
UEF was chosen by many international students as an exchange and study destination
International students choose UEF as a destination
In the first half of the year, there has been a significant increase in the number of international students participating in UEF’s study programs for exchanges, studies, and internships. This evidences the university’s unremitting efforts to create a modern, multicultural, and professional learning environment.
As of June 2024, statistics showed that UEF has welcomed students from developed countries across the continents, such as the United States, France, Japan, Germany, China, and Southeast Asian countries. These students came for study, cultural exchange, and internships, creating a dynamic and experiential learning environment alongside UEFers.
The France student delegation has just finished the international semester at UEF
Recently, a student delegation from CY Cergy Paris University (France) completed a semester of marketing strategy, business model, and other courses. They collaborated with UEF students to carry out creative business projects.
In May, UEF students collaborated with student delegations from the University of Pittsburgh (USA) for a study trip in Vietnam as part of the Plus 3 - 2024 program. UEF was the only university in Southeast Asia selected to participate, along with other universities in Korea, Argentina, the Netherlands, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Cyprus. During this trip, University of Pittsburgh students had opportunities to learn about sustainable economics and green energy through hands-on visits to businesses. They also explored the culture, history, famous landmarks, and culinary quintessence of Vietnamese cuisine.
International student delegations and UEFers engaged in hands-on activities
UEF welcomed students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (USA) and the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University for an internship program. UEF also hosted exchange programs with student delegations from the Hiroshima-Vietnam Peace and Friendship Association (Japan) and Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore.
UEF demonstrated flexibility by collaborating with Mila University (Malaysia) in a series of co-teaching classes on "The Risk and Term Structure of Interest Rates" to international students via an online platform, with the participation of students from both universities.
A valuable international environment for young Vietnamese
In addition to many ongoing activities to welcome international students, UEF also facilitated an effective environment for language communication and widened UEFers' knowledge about different cultures, lifestyles, as well as multinational learning and working styles. Simultaneously, UEFers contributed to spreading the wonderful image of the country to students from other countries. Not only did UEF “welcome” international students, but it also sought partners to send students “abroad” to enrich their knowledge, skills, and experiences.
UEFers “go abroad” with diverse study abroad options
To further strengthen international activities and enhance the quality of international learning for students, UEF will annually organize international semester programs along with exchange, interaction, and transfer activities, commencing in the 2024 academic year. In addition, UEF’s international internship programs are also efficiently promoted. In the first year of implementation, UEF only sent students to the Japanese market. Now, the internship opportunities have been expanded to Singapore, China, and the United States.
Maturing from the paid internship in Japan, Pham Thi Tuyet Mai shared, ”Through working, living, and entertaining with Japanese people, I have significantly improved my Japanese language skills and also learned more lessons outside the classroom.”
Diverse activities foster rapid international integration for students
With an extensive network of international partners, UEF students had opportunities to study and work in various multinational settings. This environment is ideal for dynamic, creative students who are eager to experience life abroad. Immersing themselves in an English-language learning and working environment with foreigners will help them enhance their language proficiency, fosters a deep and multifaceted perspective that aligns with the model of a global citizen.
